Parker
My Keyfob #1 (1997 Eldorado ETC) unlock button stopped functioning, all three other functions work fine. I obtained another Keyfob #1 for a 1997 Cadillac from a helpful member on this forum. When attempting to program according to instructions obtained online, the programming failed. I followed all steps and the IPC returned all the correct prompts as the instructions outlined. When I got to the last step when 99 is displayed on the panel, I held the trunk button and then both the trunk and lock buttons for three seconds (and longer on some attempts) but the locks didn't cycle as the instructions said they would. I did this several times with the same results. There is a fresh battery in the remote. Both fobs (#1 & #2) were present as instructed. I even attempted these programming instructions with my original Keyfob #1 to determine if the new fob might be inoperative, and had the same result. Nothing. I searched online for tips and read that when holding the buttons on the fob, make sure to point fob toward the rear of the car. No help. Am I doing something wrong??? Any tips would be appreciated. I can't stomach the thought of paying a dealer $40 or $50 to do this.
eldoman95
my first inclination would be that its a bad battery... but the other buttons work fine. id try to replace the battery anyway, if it still doesnt work theres something wrong with the remote. so unless your good with a soldering iron, change the batt. if it doesnt work get a new one.... and youll have a spare battery! good luck
Parker
The battery is a fresh battery. I tried programming both #1 remotes and neither of the two seem to respond to the programming. Even if the unlock function doesn't work on my original #1, wouldn't I still be able to program it? It seems odd, though not impossible that both #1 remotes would be unable to be programmed. That's why I suspect I'm doing something wrong. Any other suggestions anyone? KHE
The system will not allow two #1 remotes or two #2 remotes programmed to the system. You need a #1 and a #2 remote in order to use two remotes. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
Parker
I have a #1 and a #2 remote, both with good batteries installed. When attempting to program my new #1 remote, I removed the battery from my original malfunctioning #1 remote. I had both remotes, new #1 and original #2 present. The original #1 (without battery) was also present, as my car keys are on this keyring. Is it possible that the mere presence of a second remote #1, even without battery, would prevent the programming of a new #1 remote?

Northstar
It is possible that you need a new receiver module.
Parker
I would think that if I needed a new module, I would get a code. No codes set.
