bigfoo
Where the heck are these things? I've searched around my 99 sts and I don't exactly see them.. I looked all through the FSM and i still don't see it.. the best i found was a torque specification for a torque strut mount front and back or something in the FSM but that's it.. Ben
They are right on the top of the motor, towards the front. There should be 2, I think they are aluminum those years like my 95. They mount the engine to the frame, can't miss them unless they are covered my plastic. On my 95 they are not.
KHE
His car may not have them. I don't remember if they were deleted for the '98+ Sevilles or if it was after the 2000 model year. Cadillac STS
the dealer wanted like 70 buks, but i went to the local hardware store and bought a rubber mallet, chopped off the ends and repalce the bushings instead of the whole strut, took me about an hour half..saved a lot of moeny too
bigfoo
ahh....... what would cause clunking when i upshift or if i let off the gas and coast and then hit it again? usually that's a trans mount or engine mount.. this is packed in there so tight i can't even see it
bigfoo
What can I do to tighten up the engine so that it doesn't clunk when I drive hard
JasonA
You may have a broken lower mount. That seems to be a problem area with some cars. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
bigfoo
Hmm.. there is only a front mount, a right mount, and then two tranny mounts rear, and right. I REALLY hope it's the rear tranny mount, or the right engine mount because the other 2 are 100 times harder to change The key is trying to figure out which one it is......... they all LOOK ok
Arash
Bigfoo, Have you checked your stabilizer bar bushings? the clunk noise you're noticing might be from your stabilizer bar bushings.
bigfoo
hmm.. if it's not a mount then what else could it be? it's not really a noise, more like i can feel it .. say i'm going 60 and i let off and then i hit the gas somewhat hard it clunks and you can feel it
