Gear Ratio

3.71:1. According to Bbobynski, that's the shortest gear that would physically fit in the transaxle. If you want more low-end torque, swap in the LD8 Northstar engine. :)

You can also fit smaller diameter tires to give the same effect as a shorter gear ratio. For example, suppose you fitted some 225/45/R15 tires, your rpms would be 3001 at 55 rpm in direct drive (3rd gear) rather than 2588 with the stock 225/60/R16.

I did some calculations and found that this would be a 16% difference and would be in effect the same as going to a 4.33 gear ratio.

twons! :D

What's a "twon"? It's the the same thing as a "dub"? I guess I really need to "get with it". :o

the cooler is actualy for my trans.. since i recently had it rebuilt it decided to invest 80.00 bucks and an hour of my time to install it.. suposidly drops trans-oil temp 60 degrees.. considering i put a cooler large enough for a motorhome. no complants yet... but then again its not everyday i get to check my trans internals to see if its doing any good. :D oh well.. i can sugest to everyone on this board to do the same though. and the cooler doesnt bypass the factory trans cooler.. is works together with the stock cooler to cool to oil even more. thus requiring more fluid... about 3/4 of a quart extra. What's the oil cooler for? Thought the ETC came with one anyway

Not to get too far off-topic, but I think the oil coolers ended early...like with the 1994 or 1995 model year. Not sure exactly. Can anyone confirm? I think when they were installed, every Northstar car got one, and then one of the years, they stopped putting them on.

They all come stock with trans, power steering, and...uh...coolant coolers. That would be the radiator. 1995 must be the last year for the oil cooler. I think I remember Guru indicating that it just wasn't needed and was a source for additional leaks (via the small o-rings), so they didn't mess with them anymore.
