KHE
The smoke is due to the new gaskets burning in and if you timeserted the block, the thread cutting oil residue will need to burn off as well. When I did the engine in my STS 5 years ago, it really started smoking - I shut it off and started looking for something touching the exhaust manifold. I couldn't see anything so I started it back up and the amount of smoke was less. After it ran for a few minutes, it wasn't smoking anymore. BodybyFisher
It would have been nice if you had kept ALL topics TOGETHER during this engine swap job, for instance, the pin hole in the fuel rail, where the positive cable goes, now this question regarding steam from the exhaust. You see, a SINGLE thread detailing the swap can be used by OTHER members, and you contribute to the overall group. If you have a SINGLE thread regarding this engine swap, put a link to it here and I will group all messages to it so that others can learn from your engine swap experience. Obviously the muffler system needs to dry out, I would take the car on a LONG high speed ride to observe it, and let the system dry out fully so that you do not have any doubts. I have seen my Deville's mufflers actually drip condensation while it idles long before the head gasket went bad But since you bought a TESTED engine, why are you worried? Is the idle good?, no miss?, if it is drive it and put it throught its paces, change the oil after the first 500 miles and drive it again. If you stil have steam on this tested engine, do a by products test to test the coolant Let me know where you MAIN engine swap thread is, so we can put all posts related to your swap in one thread. Me?, I would have timeserted the block while it was out, why not, then you know the steam is coming from your exhaust, don't you? Hopefully you don't need to pull this engine again, but I doubt it, it was tested at the scrap yard Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
