My Half Case Seal Is Leaking

Jim,

I would assume that you would need to get an alignment following this delicate procedure. I'm sure the type of driving you do, you need everything to be 110%. Nothing like a car not staying steady at 100mph - especially if it's a caddy!!

BTW, I did the same on my car when it's warranty was about to expire in the summer of 2001. A long time ago, but I recall that my intake manifold was changed. (I smelled coolant when hot) & a few other minor things such as the strut mount & battery.

definately the right thing to do because I have had pretty good luck with it since. I guess as a car gets older, we tend to start overlooking minor seepage spots, rattles & creaks, etc.

Do you use synthetic oil?

Is it required for your year?

I know synthetic is more prone to leaking. been my experience using it as well.

It has been a real good car so far.

It doesn't have any rattles or squeaks, at least not yet. :)

I will make sure that an alignment is done also.

Front strut mounts, strut bearings and steering rack was replaced just a couple of months ago.

I do try to keep it as close to perfect as possible. :)

I do use synthetic oil.

It is not required on 2006, but it was required on the 2007..which is the exact same identical car. :)

So, I use Mobil 1 in it.

Well its good to hear the problems are minimal and mostly over 100k miles. Maybe my next will be a 04 or newer then with around 50k miles. I have to get one of the bigger styles before they go smaller in the next couple years.

Well... the engine isn't exactly LEFT HANGING. :)

There is a special hoist/frame they use to hold the engine when they drop the cradle and transmission.

Mike...(BBF) posted this link earlier.

You can see the engine holding frame in the first couple of pictures.

WOO HOO...

Got my DTS back.

So far so good.

While it was there...I had the coolant changed, the transmission fluid changed and they changed the oil of course when doing the case half seal.

I will keep a real close eye on it for a while... and I will check all fluid levels often.

Anyone have any other things I should keep an eye on?

ANY suggestions are welcome. :) :)

Nope. The main bearings do not need to be replaced when doing this repair.

On a side note, if the rod bolts are disturbed (They do not need to be in this repair), the rod bearings and the rod bolts must be replaced. The rod bearings have a high amount of "crush" once the bolts are torqued. If rod bearings are reused, they will spin in very short order damaging the crankshaft.
