runar
Hi. I need some help. Just traded my 91 for a 94 deville, and does not have the Helms manual yet. Could not get the bleeding screw loose on the right rear. Ended up drilling it out, but drilled to deep and the caliper is now garbage. I am most concered about the remounting of the brake cable. In which order that is. Should I mount the new caliper first and then attach the brake cable, or should I mount the cable first and then mount the caliper? I also printed a few post from here, and on one of them the writer said",Also pay close attention to the book as to the position of the slot in the rear pistons, that one of them lines up with the "bump" on the pad. Please ,could somebody elaborate on that. This is my first time for rear discs. Looking for you guys to come through for me. Regards Runar
Ranger
This is kind of hard to explain but I'll give it a shot (a picture is worth a thousand words). On the back of the pads there are two nipples. One at the top center and one at the bottom center. The piston has two indentations to accept these nipples so you want to make sure that the piston is in a postition with the indentations at 12 & 6 o'clock. If you are talking about the parking brake cable, I think you want to put that on first, then the caliper but it has been a year since I've done it so I could be wrong. runar
Hi Larry Thanks for your reply. I got it done now. It went fairly good. The biggest problem was that little spring retainer that clips on to the end of the cable. It probably would have been easier as you suggested to hook on the cable first and than install the caliper. KD tools sells two tools, one cube and one round one for GM and Ford. The cube works, But the GM-Ford one is to big. Regards Runar
