janitor25
I bought a 2000 Deville DHS with 109k miles yesterday. Original owner with all service records. A well taken care of car for sure. I just took it for a quick drive, and bought it on the spot. My previous car was a 97 Deville which I had owned for 9 years, and racked-up 289k miles on the odometer before I gave it to my sister-in-law. It was the best car I ever owned.I would still be driving it if it was'nt for the profuse oil leak. Well I'm not too impressed with the 2000. Out on the highway it "walks around" all over the road. Has anyone here experianced this? The guy I bought it from had just installed new Michelin Hydroedge tires. Could these tires cause my handeling issues? When I hit a bump when cornering, the rear of the car seems to want to chine walk similar to my corvette. I really hate to spend the money on Symmetry's if its not the tires. I'm also only getting 18 miles per gallon on the highway. What's up with that? My 99 always got mid 20's. All is all this car seems to lack that "Caddy feel" my 99 had. I'm very disapointed so far. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
BodybyFisher
Of course this car is going to handle much better than your 97, and the Hydroedge are great tires, so this is something with your car I would jack up the front end and check for looseness, in the tie rods, rack, ball joints, strut rod bushings, anything worn, Then I would have a look at the rear suspension, I dont know if this year has bushings in the rear knuckle but the problem you describe sounds similar to what I was getting in my 96 Check the tire pressure for proper pressure front and rear. Low pressure in the tires will make it wander and hurt gas mileage Check the struts Have the alignment checked Check for codes, reset the mpg meter, mileage, and start over Maybe it needs plugs, or someone put aftermarket plugs in it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
KHE
Something may be worn in the suspension. I have a 2005 Deville and it does not wander all over the road. Your highway fuel economy sounds low to me. I get 27-28 mpg on the highway with mine. I don't think the rear suspension in the 2000+ Devilles were prone to knuckle bushing wear like the '95-'99 models.
