I have the same issue for years now on my 2001 STS. Dealwer says it's steering wheel position sensor $600+ not worth bothering with in my mind. If someone else has a better answer please convey. 12/12/2010

If you are referring to the SERVICE STABILITY SYS message, you can double check the dealer's diagnosis by displaying your Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Here's how;

You are most interested in "C" codes; note them and report back.

Hello had the same problem on my 1999 STS how I fixed it was to put a new front hub on the front right and front left wheel took care the Palm but checked the colds off the onboard diagnostic.

You can do that, by turn on the car press the ^ and On/Off on your DIC controls. Dash will flicker for a few seconds and then come back up and read "All Codes?".

Press on the On/Off button and it will list all your codes. Found this info on this site so if you look through some of the other postings you may find more detailed instructions on how to look up your colds.

Then you can google the colds to find out what it means good luck.

ps

also have a pen and paper so you can write the colds down when you're sitting in the car

My friend had the same issue on his 2001 STS, it was just to replace the Steering wheel positioning sensor for $60 http://www.newgmparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=213815&chapter=&sectionids=22,2561&groupid=62255&make=5&model=Seville&year=2001&catalogid=1&displayCatalogid=0

Pretty easy job.
