CarlaValentine
I'm not going to comment on the whining noise as I have never heard a sound like that before and couldn't begin to guess exactly what it is. If your trans fluid is black then it's extremely likely burnt. It would typically smell similar to burnt popcorn in that case. The fluid should be red-ish. When you checked the fluid for color, did you check the level as well? If it's too low, or too full, it could cause the trans to overheat, burn the fluid, and damage internal parts. I'll look into code meanings in a few minutes here....

BodybyFisher
That is a hydraulic noise, possibly caused by air. It could be the pump, misplaced filters, bad seals, etc. You say that its engaging into gear slowly, that could be the result of low pressure, we had a member replace his pump and solve the problem. Ill try to find the thread later, you might try to find it, search whining, pump, etc Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
BodybyFisher
P1642 - Vehicle Speed Output Circuit (never saw this code before, but there is a VSS in the tranny, is your speedometer working?), check the connections on the top of the right output shaft for good connection P0603 - Control Module Long Term Memory Reset (battery must have been disconnected) Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Texas Jim
My uneducated guess about the sound....it is a pump. Sounds like it is starving for fluid. Is the "FLUID LEVEL" where it is supposed to be? Check it at normal operating temperature on level ground in "PARK" Is the fluid a light red/pink color? If not ...drop the pan and do a fluid change. If you drop the pan, be sure to check the filter/screen for proper placement and clean everything well.
StrictlyBusiness
Dropped the pan and changed the fluid. It does sound like something is not getting fluid, The fluid was normal but there was a slight build up. its still making the horrible sound. If not, check them and post them here.... There may be a code relating to the torque converter.
StrictlyBusiness
No new codes have been set. I have cleared all the codes and now there are no yellow lights on the dash no check engine or abs lights.
