BodybyFisher
Check the adjustment of your brake switch, its possible that it is maladjusted and stopping the OD from kicking in When you changed your fluid, did you pull the pan? What did you find in the pan?, how was the fluid when you changed Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
Is it that it is not engaging or is it that it is slipping and the RPMs rise with no 'pull' You said slipping Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
motheman
Is it that it is not engaging or is it that it is slipping and the RPMs rise with no 'pull' You said slipping ok here is what happened.couple weeks ago i was driving with trans in o/d. traveling alone about 50 mph and it was like it went in neutral, rpm went very hi and then it engaged back into gear, went a couple miles and done the same thing.it then felt like it went into 3 rd gear.when i chnged trans.fluid and filters drove it and put in o/d and it stayed in 3rd gear.when i drive it now can put in o/d and it will not shift into that,it runs fine in 3rd gear no slipping or anything, just will not engage into 0/d
motheman
will it hurt to drive it in 3rd gear, just not put it in o/d,just put it in 3.the deville only has 124 k miles on it.i am the second owner have had it about 5 yrs.i have all the maint.records car has been very well maintained. BodybyFisher
I am very surprised that you are not getting a code, this could be a bad torque converter and if it slips it would set a P0741. In addition no TCC codes. With no burned tranny fluid or codes, I am stumped. Lets see what others say. Do you notice any buzzing or whining when this happens? I would avoid using OD, and keep it in 3rd Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
If it was just not going in to OD, I would say to check the brake switch, but you say its slipping, so its not related to the brake switch. When the OD is working properly, if you tap the brake it comes out of OD Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

When the OD is working properly, if you tap the brake it comes out of OD it is not shifting into o/d,i can put it in o/d and it does not slip just wont change into o/d,as i said 123 gears work fine.i just drove it about 50 miles and noticed a big drop in fuel mi. usually it gets about 23 around town and now its around 15 mpg.reverse also works fine.if it was the convertor it should slip in any gear, its not slipping at all. how do i check the brake switch. BodybyFisher
I am a bit confused, based on what you said previously its slipping, i was driving with trans in o/d. traveling alone about 50 mph and it was like it went in neutral, rpm went very hi That is not a good sign and the brake switch will not cause that A lack of OD should not drop your MPG from 22 to 15. What RPM are you running at 60 mph? BodybyFisher
How did you change the fluid? Were the filters changed also? Did you take it to a shop that flushes the tranny? It is odd that your tranny would be worse after a fluid change Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

It means that the torque converter is slipping more than it should. It is odd that your tranny would be worse after a fluid change i got a electric pump and sucked all the fluid out of thr resevoir and then dropped the pan draining the rest of the fluid, removed the 2 screen filters and replaced with new ones, bolted the pan back on and refilled with clean fluid to proper level, drove the car and noticed it would not shift into o/d.
