kizzie56
I have a 1998 Catera. There is a tan, greasy substance in the oil filler tube. There doesn't appear to be any water in the oil. It has been suggested that it is a blown head gasket but with the lack of water in the oil, I wonder if it could be something else. A friend said that there is some kind of plug you can replace that will make this problem go away. Any suggestions? Anything would be greatly appreciated. BodybyFisher
That is probably sludge, change the oil. If you have any fears, send an oil sample to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ for analysis. Ranger
That sounds like an oil/water sludge. Check to be sure your PCV system is working properly. Start with the PCV valve.
