Seanmannino
Hi guys, im tring to change out my waterpump on a 98 deville. I have everything i need including the waterpump tool. well heres the problem im ruinng into. it seems like the pump is on way too tight. it looks like the ears on the pump is so close to the latch in the housing. now the tool will not grab the ears on the waterpump to turn it. what should i do next I had this same issue. Turns out that the guy at Autozone gave me a waterpump tool that was in fact 1/32 too long and it would catch on the teeth in the block. went back to autozone and yes the numbers matched and everything the second one was put next to the first one on their backsides and the first was too long. After we got the right tool it was a matter of 3 minutes and we had the new waterpump in. After 3 hours of trying to figure out what the heck was wrong... Just my two cents worth. btw I have a 97 DeVille Sean M. 1997 Cadillac DeVille
stsevillests
I think it has backwards threads, so turn it to the right to loosen.
rockfangd
I have also had the problemm with the tool. So i bought a matco one. And I think it releases by turning clockwise, You can see by looking at the outside of the housing on the engine side GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
Ranger
It is not threaded. It's cam locked. Only takes about 1/8 turn clockwise to loosen it. Get a good machined tool, not a cheap stamped steel one and give it a few short bursts from an impact and that should break it loose.
PAUL T
I used a 2' piece of pipe on my breaker bar and steady pressure. It does come off by turning it clockwise like a left hand threaded bolt.
