scott y
In the last week or so the ol'94 STS has been a little hesitant to wake up in the morning...Cranks over fine but doesn't fire up boom the way it used to. Sometimes you can even hear a little "pop" after the first crank. The second crank(usually) it fires but kind of slowly comes to life and then runs fine...all day. I wonder if it's time for a bit of exercise for ol' Greenie,it's been awhile. With 280K(km) I really don't like to pound on er the way it's recommended but I'll give it a whirl tonite. BodybyFisher
If you are getting a pop after the first crank check your injectors for leaking Try a bottle of Techron and use as per the directions, to clean out your injectors and use a good grade of fuel and take it on a long ride Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
scott y
I don't think that I have access to that product here in Canada, but i'll try and find another type of injector cleaner, Lucas fuel treatment comes to mind. The way that I described the starting issue is not misfire is it?
BodybyFisher
NO, do not under any circumstance use ANY other fuel injector cleaner they are potentially dangerous to your INJECTORS and FUEL PUMP windings. ONLY use TECHRON, check your local GM dealer... The way that I described the starting issue is not misfire is it? If you had a misfire you would get a code. Does it sound like a misfire or a back fire? You said POP... A "POP" and slow start up would indicate that fuel had pooled in a cylinder, I believe. Keep in mind that the NS uses a waste spark ignition system, where two plugs fire at the same time one in the compression stroke and one in the exhaust stroke, if there is fuel present at the instant of start up, it could be ignited while the exhaust valve is OPEN and that is what you hear Typically I would lift the fuel rail and take a look at my injectors while they are pressurized to see if one or more drips, but on a 94, I am not sure how that is done, maybe someone with a 94 will opine on this How old is your fuel filter, and I would put a fuel pressure tester on her in the morning also to see how the pressure comes up Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
scott y
Found out that Petro-Canada(gas Supplier here in Canada) uses Tactrol which is apparently the same as Techron as they add it to there Premium grade fuel also, or you may buy it in the bottle form. I will however check with the dealer tomorrow on the supply/avail. of Techron but I don't think so.

BodybyFisher
One more thing, another way to determine if you have one or more drippy injectors is to send your oil to Blackstone Oil Labs to have it analyzed, tell them you are specifically looking for fuel. Regardless however they will do a full analysis for you. Check them out, its cheap and valuable information, Mike Tell them caddyinfo sent you, we like their service http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
