Texas Jim
The other day, some idiot stopped in the middle of the freeway in front of me. I bumped him pretty hard... about 20 mph when I hit him. Having to have the front bumper, grill and hood replaced and repainted.

Texas Jim
Sorry to hear that, hope you are ok and that you get it back quickly Thanks Mike. We are all ok. Darling Wife was with me. Just a little sheet metal damage. I will try to figure a way to post pics of it. We were on the way to meet our son and some other friends for dinner when it happened. Son was in the parking lot when we pulled up. I told him he was going to have to buy my dinner, because it had already cost me 500 bucks just to get there. (the deductible).. :)
Cadillac Jim
Stopping abruptly on a freeway was a common incident-causing tactic in insurance fraud in the 1990's. Bruce Nunnally
Glad you are both okay. Things can be fixed easier than people. Tell the Wife that if you get a V-Series you could avoid that sort of thing; doesn't sound like it in this case but I like that argument. I can't find any holes in that argument. Glad you and the Darlin' are okay Jim. There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

Cadillac Jim
Actually you would not likely have had this accident had you been in a CTS-V or STS-V, and certainly not in an XLR-V. Driving these cars puts you in an awareness-of-vehicle state in which you unconsciously watch for anything that threatens the car and allow more distance to cars in front. Then, there's the dramatically improved brakes on any of the V-series. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Texas Jim
Glad to hear it was "only" metal damage. ....about 20 mph when I hit him. 20 MPH and the air bags did not fire? ? No sir... the air bags did not go off. Maybe I was going slower than I thought I was. I was doing about 40 when I glanced "BACK" to see if I could change lanes... when I looked back "FORWARD" he was almost completely stopped and "WAS" completely stopped by the time I hit him. It wasn't a real hard hit. I was already slowing down from seeing the brake lights "WAY UP IN FRONT" of me. Then, I was really standing on the brakes as I slid into him. Logan
"20 MPH and the air bags did not fire? ?" It's not like what you see on TV or in the movies. GM air bag system do not use vehicle speed for deployment. What the module is looking for is a very rapid change in velocity in a very short period of time. In the inital 15 to 30 ms the module has to decide to deploy the bags or not. That said, the SDM most likely created a non-deployment crash file in the air bag SDM. Being a non-deployment file it will be stored in the SDM for about 250 ignition cycles. You would need the Bosch CDR equipment to get the crash file. A GM Tech 2 cannot download the stored crash data. Jan Olsson
Glad to hear that you're allright and that your car is back on track! But I still think you should go for the STS-V Have you heard any news regarding the retard who caused the accident? I have driven a couple of late model STS's... I don't like them. But seriously... I am thinking about a CTS "V" "WAGON"... .. Legally the accident was my fault. When you hit someone in the rear...the cops just automatically say that you were following too close. Sometimes that is not actually true and there are other extenuating circumstances... but 9 times out of 10...it is legally your fault. My ins co already said that they were going to fix his car. I paid the $500 deductible on my insurance and and got mine fixed. It looks just like new again... :) So I am relatively happy... except that I just wish it hadn't got bent in the first place... I know exactly what you mean Jim. Been there. Legally you are at fault even though it was not your fault. It's not fair, but it is what it is. Jan Olsson
A very striking car! I would also like to have front parking assistance. Well the CTS is a very nice looking car and is perhaps a bit more up-to-date interiorwise (i.e. more modern stereo/navigation unit etc). I would really like to have the new CTS-V but I'll settle with a STS in a couple of years
