KenD
Hey all, glad to be back. I thought that i would be driving the wife's RAV4 for the rest of my life, but she's now realizing how many kilometres we're putting on her car now that we live out of town and she said that we should split the year up with our cars. So, my 6 months of driving start the end of August!! I have had this oil leak coming from the oil filter area for a long time. It's progressively gotten worse over the 8 years that i've had the car. It didn't have this problem when i bought the car, but started slowly over the years and now i have to at least put two litres in between oil changes and it's making a mess of the garage shop floor if i don't put card board down. I would like to have some advice as to wear to start on this. Hopefully it's something simple. scott y
I've owned my '94 STS for 10years now and it always had some sort of minor drip. Each time I change the oil the oilpan/trans pan is residual oil covered(dreaded case half seal?). I've checked pan bolts filter seal area whateverbut have just decided to live with it. For some reason I just can't figure out tho, it's never low on oil between changes. My '02 drinks oil and doesn't leak a drop!!??!!
winterset
My '02 drinks oil and doesn't leak a drop!!??!! Someones car needs a WOT exercise!! That will loosen up those those rings. I personally would also add 10oz of Marvel Mystery oil into a full tank before you do this. & possibly a little into the crankcase to top it off. firefoot0315
My grandfather, the previous owner of my 1994 STS, thought the heavy leak was from the oil filter. Ended up tightening it til he broke the housing and had to replace it, shortly after which he gave up and left the car to rot. When I took it over I got the major main seals (rear main and maybe case half?) replaced. It still drips a bit, admittedly from the oil filter area, but it doesn't hemmorhage oil anymore. And actually since my last oil change a couple months ago I haven't had to add any oil, whereas I'd gotten used to adding half a quart(liter) a month. I've decided to live with it since it still runs like a champ, and put down cardboard in the garage. No matter where you go, there you are.
