JesseRSmith
Hello all, new to the forums here mainly because I got a problem with my 95 deville 4.9. Started with a rattling/grinding noise. I noted when I got to work that the pulley in the middle was wobbling. On my way home (nice and slow 7 mile trip) the belt fell off. Got all the warnings about a/c, engine hot, battery not charging; lost my power steering. My main question is about the pulley. It is mounted to the side of the block I believe... Thanks for any and all comments!
MAC
I'm not well versed in the 4.9L, but I'm pretty sure that's the water pump pulley. I don't know if it means the water pump needs to be replaced--it usually does. Is the shaft wobbly and/or do you see any leaking antifreeze? The water pump bearing is likely worn, causing shaft to wobble, which caused the belt to come off.
BodybyFisher
That is the water pump pulley and it wobbles and you lose your belt when the water pump is bad, replace the pump, NAPA sells a good one I had a 91 Seville 4.9, and had many go bad Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
rockfangd
water pump is easy to change. unbolt the pulley by removing the 4 bolts, then unbolt the water pump retainer bolts. (4-6 i believe), clean the old gasket off and installation is opposite of removal GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
