Jagmeister
This morning I went out to start the car and got the blinking "Security" on the instrument panel and then: Starting Disabled - Theft Deterrent System - Remove Ignition Key - Wait 3 minutes - and so on. I've owned this car for six years and never seen this before. Nothing I do seems to clear the problem. Moving this to the correct forum...
Cadillac Jim
You probably should start by getting the OBD codes and posting them here. See the link in my signature block for instructions. I will say that you should look at the key and see if the resistor terminals look worn, and if so, take the key (and car, if you can) and your registration card with the VIN number to a Cadillac dealer and have a duplicate key made. That may fix the problem. If not, you may need parts inside the steering column or elsewhere. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. adallak
Could be also failed tiny wires inside the ignition lock cylinder. I would measure the resistance of your key, buy matching resistor or a combination of resistors from RadioShack, install them on car's side of wires going to the ignition lock and forget it regardless the culprit (whether the key or the wires). The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
