Bruce Nunnally Posted May 8, 2010 Report Share Posted May 8, 2010 A New Cumberland man is charged with impersonating a police officer in a ruse where he returned items to stores for cash refunds.Fairview Township Police Officer Jarrett L. Boyles stumbled onto the scam when he walked into a Limekiln Road convenience store in February to buy a pack of gum. Boyles reported that as he approached the counter, the clerk asked, "Are you with him?" and the customer at the counter said, "No, I'm with a different precinct." After paying for his gum, Boyles went to the parking lot and checked the registration on a likely looking vehicle, a tan Cadillac. The customer left in that car before any information came back on the vehicle. Boyles questioned the clerk who told him the customer had identified himself as a police officer and returned a case of water for his department, complaining some of the bottles had broken seals. The clerk said he gave the man $25.
