Hello, i have a 1990 seville, with about 95K miles on it. my problem history so far has been faulty vaccuum lines, and a bad egr valve. When the valave went the car was low on power, and ran like crud really. Now i've replaced the valve, reset the computer, etc, and my gas mileage is back up where it should be, but the car is still missing/stuttering mostly in the 45-50mph range, worst at 45, and it does it when accelerating when its toward the lower end of the gear. Any ideas as to WHY its not running right? I know my muffler will need to be replaced soon as it seems rotted out, with all the systems on this car could this cause my problem? Thanks in advance

How old are the plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

I'm not really sure, i got the car from a dealership December 24th. Tips on how to diagnose if thats my problem? I don't really have alot of extra cash, so the more certain i can be that i'm buying the parts i need before i buy them, the better.

Hard to tell. All those components can look good, but still be bad. You can pull the plugs and clean and reinstall them. Measure the wire resistance, but that failed to diagnose a problem with mine years ago. Not much you can do about the cap other than clean the contacts. If the contacts have gotten eroded then the cap needs to be replaced.

Ok, i havent had alot of time to check it out...but i'll just have to check things one at a time i guess. It seems to be ok most of the time, just mainly in the 1300-1500rpm range is when it acts up, when i press the gas pedal and make it shift down, it smooths out.
