I just bought a 90 seville from texas with 90k miles on it and it has a no-start condition. It has spark and fuel, but the injectors aren't firing. Where does the computer get the signal from for the injectors? Does it come from the magnetic pickup in the distributor? I'm unfamiliar with these motors and don't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle/motor.

Thanks

you say it has fuel but injectors arent firing. You mean there IS fuel pressure?

Check the INJ fuses if you have them in 90.

I visually checked all the fuses and they were fine. I will now check them with my ohm meter. Does anyone have a diagram of the fuse/relay panel under the hood? I didn't get an owner's manual with the car.

what can i check to be sure the computer is getting the signal to fire the injectors? What sensor does this use in place of a crank sensor?

Im really unfamiliar with this engine so I cant help too much. We know distributor can affect fuel pump, oil pressure affects fuel pump, but im not sure what affects injectors. You may be on the right track thinking its just a sensor. I had a 90 Lumina that had a crank position sensor so your car may have one, check the parts store what sensors are on that engine that may affect it.

It may help, autozone.com has wiring diagrams for alot of cars. Its basically copies of pages from a chiltons. This may help with locating fuses too? Hopefully someone still remembers some about this engine.

Are there any trouble codes stored in the onboard diagnostics? Simultaneously press and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control unit and write down the codes that are displayed.

I didn't know that worked with this older body style as well. Anyway, here are the codes:

E 052

074

B 120

333

334

335

336

337

552

R 021

026

033

And I haven't reset the codes yet. I will now that I know that works with this body style.

Is there a page that has the codes listed? I have a chilton's on its way in the mail..

Here is where you can find out the meaning of your codes

You will find the Chiltons to be a waste of time

P052 (E052) ....................................................... PCM Memory Reset

P074 (E074) ................................................ Intermittent MAT Signal

B120 ................................... Twilight Sentinel Delay Pot Circuit Problem

B333 ................................ Loss of Supplemental Inflatable Restraint Data

B334 .................................. Loss of Electronic Control Module (ECM) Data

B335 ................ Loss of Climate Control Driver Information Center (CCDIC) Data

B336 .................................... Loss of Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)Data

B337 ................... Loss of Programmer Data [A/C Clutch, Parking Brake Release]

B552 .................................................... BCM Memory Reset Indicator

I've cleared the codes and wired a resistor in under the dash. It no longer sets off the vats randomly, but it still will not fire the injectors. I'm waiting on my manual for the wiring diagram. Any suggestions?

This has to be a vats problem, there is a fuel enable circuit, see reference to is in this link

http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7erz1/id14.html

In my 1991 manual, regarding Theft Deterrent Systems, Pass Key VATS, it states

Fuel Enable Output

The fuel enable circuit is an output from the PASS-Key Module and an input to the PCM. When the PASS-Key module sees the proper resistence at the Ignition Key, it will output a signal to the PCM. If the PASS-Key module does not see the proper resistence at the ignition key, it will not output the signal to the PCM

Ignition Key Resistor Input

The ignition key resistor inputs are used to determine if the correct key is being used to start the car. The ignition key resister inputs are read only when the key is first turned to ON. If the resistence value if the ignition key matches the value stored in the Pass-Key module, the the starter enable relay and fuel enable output will allow the vehicle to start, if there is no resistence match, the starter enable relay and fuel enable output will not allow the vehicle to start.

I would confirm correct VAT operation, resistence, etc, and consider that the PASS-Key module is defective in that it is not outputting a GO signal to the PCM/ECM

Is there anything between the passkey box and the pcm for the blue signal wire? I have 4.5V in the run position and 0 at crank. I measured the resistance and got 430 ohms. I searched and found that if it is functioning properly that it should have 2.5V at crank. The resistance still seem a bit high to me though.
