JimD
Only you can answer the "worth it" question. But it is not necesaary to "replace" the engine to deal with a head gasket issue. From were I sit it makes more sense to pay the price for head gasket replacement on your existing engine. The caveat is you must find a shop or independent individual with Northstar experience willing to take the time to do the repair according to GM/Cadillac recommendations. Price can vary from $2,000 to whatever the repair shop owner senses you might be willing to pay. If you live anywhere near Lake Erie, there is a shop in Southern Ontario that has extensive experience with Northstars and a solid reputation. But first you must decide the "worth it" question. KHE
I would repair the existing engine vs. installing a used engine with unknown history in the car. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
BodybyFisher
I agree, unless you get a used engine with low miles, THEN timesert it, its best to repair your own engine Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
