niko
My 1979 Eldorado, with the first year the electronic fuel injection(EFI) came out has a real hard time starting when cold, but starts with no problem once engine has warmed up??? This never happened before and I've had the car since 1979. It was in storage for a while but this happened a few weeks after I brought it out of storage??? I thought it might be the fuel pumps, changed thosed but still having the same problem. Found something on the internet about "cold start valve" but not even the dealer carries this part??? KHE
Check the coolant temperature sensor. The most common symptom on that engine when the coolant temperature sensor has drifted is difficult cold starts. There should be a temperature vs. resistance chart in the shop manual that will allow you to test the sensor. Basically, after the car sits overnight, the coolant temperature will be equal to the ambient air temperature. Unplug the sensor and verify the resistance matches the spec. for the ambient temperature.
