Logan
Toyota issued a rare 'stop sale' action on recalled cars. Production is also suspended until it gets the accelerator problem solved. 8 models involved. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dr...ration-issues/1 Quote Logan Diagnostic LLC www.airbagcrash.com www.logandieselusa.com www.ledfix.com www.ledfix.com/yukontaillightrepair.html www.ledfix.com/ledreplacements.html www.ledfix.com/j42385toolrental.html

Bruce Nunnally
That seems wise; continuing to sell cars you know are defective leaves you open for liability. MrEldo97
Are they really defective or is it a driver of low intelectual capacity issue? Of course, my comments are made somewhat in jest and with all due respect to those who aren't as dumb as a lot of Toyota drivers... Toyota has not yet succeeded at making cars that are truly idiot proof. Gotta give 'em credit for trying... Bruce Nunnally
People have died in these cars related to the sudden acceleration that is still not well understood. It has nothing to do with the driver; the cars have some issue. KHE
What I don't understand is why didn't the drivers of the cars that suddenly accelerated just turn the key to the OFF position and apply the brakes???? The column won't lock until the gearshift is in park so the steering would still be functional and so would the brakes. Bruce Nunnally
These are throttle by wire cars and the throttle is staying open so the brakes don't appear to be having the expected effect. This may cause people to think the brakes are not working, when they should be continuing to brake. Toyota is changing the logic so if you have the brakes pushed the throttle won't continue to accelerate. Not sure on the others, in the Prius the gear shift is odd and requires attention to shift gears. Also, the car is keyless; you push a button to start it, and hold down the button to shut it off. When you are parking at night you push a park button then push the off button; a single push turns off the car. To turn the Prius off at speed apparently off you have to hold down the on/off button for more than 3-5 seconds. Again, drivers may not realize this (I did not, and my Wife drives a Prius), and may simply punch the button thinking that should turn off the car. The prius is not included in this latest recall, only in the floormat recall. The complications described by Bruce might play the critical role in the accidents. Quote The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

CarlaValentine
I know the throttle issue has nothing to do with the drivers of the cars. I was just saying that nothing is truly idiot proof. I laughed at the coffee cup thing...all I can think of when I see that is that woman who sued (mcdonald's? I think) because she had the cup of coffee in her lap while driving and it spilled and burned her...hmmmm. Not really a smart move there. Manufacturers have to consider when making new things that our world as a whole is becoming more lazy and negligent. I mean come on, they sell frozen hot dogs already on buns now! How much more lazy can you get? Sorry to stray from the topic for a second there...If Bruce is right, and Toyota is changing their logic so that the throttle will stop accelerating once the brake is depressed, then that is a step in the right direction for them. Perhaps one that more auto makers should look into nowadays with all the added technology being put into cars.

The prius is not included in this latest recall, only in the floormat recall. You know, I was thinking last night that that this might be related to electronic throttle control issues. Honestly, while electronic throttle control is a very cool thing, not that I have even driven one, but I can only imagine that throttle response must be outstanding, BUT, what concerned me is the potential of uncontrolled acceleration due to short circuit or failure of a throttle actuator. If you do a search under NHTSA you will find lots of speed control and uncontrolled acceleration complaints, I wont mention the manufacturer or make A couple of years ago, a good friend of mine owned a car wash/detail shop. There were detailing a DTS and it accelerated into a building luckily the car had not picked up too much speed, they had to turn the key off to stop it, it wasnt the mat Quote Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Logan
NHTSA has issued a statement "removal of the floor mats does not fix the underlying problem.." That said, as a organization, NHSTA has a lot of bark and not much bite. Toyotas do use air bag event data recorders aka EDR's and black boxes. Surely some information there. http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/event-d...ders-93447.aspx To turn off production, and issue stop sells, somethings up at Toyota.
