Bruce Nunnally
At the Detroit Auto show today Bryan Nesbitt (Cadillac GM) said that in the future all Cadillacs will offer a Platinum (high luxury / high option) variant AND a V-Series High-performance variant. Love it. Bruce 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube
Texas Jim
Interesting, and very welcome news. If they make a "PLATINUM" "V" version of the XTS... I probably will be in the market for one. I can almost GUARANTEE, that I "WILL NOT" be buying one if it doesn't have some powerplant besides a hybrid or a V6. In my opinion...That is just too big of a car not to have more power and torque than a V6.
Bruce Nunnally
With the 350 hp V6 it should outrun your current DTS, but we'll see when they actually build it how it does. I think the idea is that there will be a base version with options, OR a Platinum variant that is max luxury/infotainment/features OR V version that is max performance. I understand you would prefer max everything. I think Cadillac needs to re-create their car categories again. Right now cadillac.com treats the V-Series as one set of cars, then the Platinum Series as one set of cars, then the main non-V non-Platinum cars as one branch. It might make more sense to have the CTS Family, composed of: CTS Sedan CTS V-Sedan CTS Coupe CTS V-Coupe CTS Sport Wagon CTS V-Sport Wagon Instead of CTS Sedan CTS Coupe CTS Sport Wagon V-Series CTS-V Sedan CTS-V Coupe CTS-V Sport Wagon Platinum Series CTS Sedan CTS Coupe CTS Sport Wagon I do welcome the ATS-V, XTS-V, and CTS Platinum! Texas Jim
Yep, you are right. I would prefer MAX EVERYTHING. (laughing) I really need to go drive a CTS with the 3.6 DI. I may be missing something that I would like. I have not yet driven one of the DI cars. I know I won't / can't buy one...the console hurts my right knee when driving and my knee is leaning up against it... it needs to be an inch or two wider at that point for me. But I really do need to go and drive one, just to see how it runs and maybe rethink my position on engines. I hate to be an old curmudgeon, but I just think that a "BIG" Cadillac, like the XTS, should have a nice V-8 in it. But thats just me... I am getting old and set in my ways, but I "CAN" still change my mind if a compelling reason comes along. For some reason...I have a really strong aversion to hybrids...and I don't know why. Let me clarify that about Hybrids...for someone else...they are fine. For "ME"...I have a total zero desire to own one. Fot me to have one, it would have to be like the Godfather...They would have to "Make me a deal that I couldn't refuse."
Bruce Nunnally
A plug in hybrid with a 10 mile range and 45 mile max speed on electric would get me to work every day on no gas. Add in the 40 hp boost (minus the loss due to weight of the hybrid system) to 0-60 time and that's a no brainer. That said, I still think the XTS will need a transverse V8 to be available, or the turbo or supercharged 3.6L -- something with 425hp or so. My sister in law is a school teacher. She lives about 1.5 miles from the school. 95 percent of her driving is less then 5 or 10 miles from her house, and all on city streets. She very seldom gets on the freeway. A plug in Hybrid would be GREAT for her. I need to point that out to her. Knowing her...she has never thought of it. I drive 200 to 300 miles a day...sometimes more...and it is almost ALL freeway and Interstate highway. It wouldn't work well for me. I agree about the 425HP or so for the XTS. CoupeDTS
From what I understand anything with a "V" right now HAS to have a 0-60 time under 5 seconds. So if ALL cadillacs will have a platinum or V variant then even the big cadillacs and should I even say Escalade will all need powerplants to get them to 60 in under 5 seconds?? Wow thats saying alot. Just think what it would take for the current DTS to get to 60 in under 5, maybe 500 hp and AWD? They obviously dont have anything right now that can do it because there is no DTS-V and IF there were would there be any market for one at all? Doubtful. I like my big cadillacs. I wish they would still make large vehicles (bigger than DTS) like Lincoln still makes the town car, it could even be FWD if it wanted to be. Maybe a return of a fleetwood in limited production like they used to be in the 90s, could be a FTS So anyway that makes me question that statement; all cadillacs will have a V series... * 1966 Deville Convertible * 2007 Escalade ESV Black on Black * 1996 Fleetwood Brougham Black on Black V4P -Gone* 1983 Coupe Deville Street/Show Lowrider -Gone* 1970 Calais 4dr Hardtop GONE* 2000 Deville DTS - Silver with Black Leather and SE grille GONE* 1999 Seville STS - Pearl Red GONE
Bruce Nunnally
Bryan Nesbitt said in his speech both a Platinum and a V series variant of every Cadillac. Some articles today soften that to EITHER a Platinum OR a V Series variant of every Cadillac. So we'll see.
