manowar77
Hi guys! I noticed a smaller coolantleak this week from the right front of the car, used a flashlight and could see that it leaked from right under the upper coolanthose.... Took the car to the GM work shop and the said the same thing...cracked radiator!! I wasnt much to do then to order a new one and had it replaced the next day! My question is, How the ¤¤¤¤ can i a radiator just crack in the plastic? If it had been 20 degrees below freezingpoint and only water in the system it would be one thing but not now.... It were the original radiatorr from 1995 that cracked! Any ideas how to prevent future cracks.....? Roger Roger Martinsen
BodybyFisher
Roger, the plastic end tanks crack, I have seen them just explode with force, they develop stress cracks and leak steam and progressively get worse. Texas Jim
Roger, Sorry to hear that it cracked and had to be replaced. From what I have read on the forums, that is not too uncommon. Remember... It is PLASTIC. It is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. The one in my DTS is also plastic.
manowar77
What is the cause of these explosions/caracks? Do you know? Roger Martinsen
Ranger
Many many heat/cool cycles get the plastic brittle. I don't know why they didn't just stick with brass or aluminum.

I am sure it involved weight and cost of brass and the fact the block is aluminum, to stop electrolisys (sp) Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
