Hello everyone!

I am planning to visit Hershey fall market in oct 2010 and have already booked a room in Jonestown,Lebanon,Pennsylvania!

We are going to pickup a rental car at Avis at Newark airport,N.Y and driving to Jonestown...my question are if you know how long time it will take by car from N.Y to Lebanon? Just follow I-78 west a suppose!

It cant take more then 2-3 hours? It tooked about 4 hours from D.C to N.Y last time i were in U.S and according to the interstate map thats a bit longer!

My Map shows 140 miles from Newark Airport to Lebanon PA.

Probably less than 3 hours...depending on time of day and traffic around the airport.

The time consuming part will probably be the first 15 or 20 miles after leaving the airport.

After that, it should be a really nice drive.

There are some beautiful scenic drives in PA that you may want to consider checking out.

Thanks Jim!

I will do that....do you know what temperature it is in Pennsylvania in october?

Warm and nice i hope:)

Can't help you too much on the temps...I live in Texas. :D

My understanding is, it would probably be a little chilly...at least for me. :D

My "GUESS" is ...probably in the 40's in October.

That would be sweater or light jacket temps for me.

I am sure other people will chime in, that know a LOT more about it than I do.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I live in New York and I am from Pennsylvania and go to Lancaster and Hershey often. When you are ready to go let me know, its probably about 3 hours from Newark, not bad at all, I can give you good directions and places to see, if you'd like

In October its probably 55 to 65 degrees F.

Roger, what time are you arriving? Do you have hotel reservations for the night of the 4th? I might be able to get you into an area that is interesting half way or so.

Have you been to Lancaster?

Do you like gardens? This would be a nice place to go the night of the 4th and see it on the 5th, there is a good breakfast place nearby.

car insurance should be cheap for a foreigner driving in the US. i am sure a car rental agent in NY is honest and fair. don't forget your permit to drive across state lines. just kidding.

Microsoft Streets and Trips calls it 37 minutes. Temps should be in the 60's and the leaves should be at peak color. Sounds like a nice trip. Get some Hershey's chocolate while you're there!

I can send you turn by turn maps if you wish. (Note construction through 2010 on part of the trip, no big deal)

See attachment:

Sorry, apparently map file .pdf is too big (22.8 mb) I can send if you PM w/email.

Jankarn, check this out, an UNDEVELOPED park, which I think would be perfect for fly fishing! Rent a Jeep Unlimited!

Thanks Warren, now i know where i can go on my week in PA!

Roger

Roger,

Just so's you might understand, I'm not a frequent traveler. I might be speaking out my rear blowpipe now, but might you not consider getting a commuter flight from Newark to Lancaster Airport and picking up the rental car there?

Note that Newark Airport is in New Jersey, NOT New York.

Last time that i were in USA,we landed on Newark airport, new yersey, new York and then we used the airtrain at the airport and got off att Avis rental depot at the airport! Very nice and easy so im thinking of doing the same next year!

I think it will be more expensive if you fly from Newark to Lancaster instead of renting a car directly, afterall your gas prices are nothing compared to here(60% lower then here) and the best way like i see it its to travel by car in USA!

I don't know what was going on with "Streets and Trips" yesterday. Today the program has the trip at just over two hours. So BBF was pretty close considering traffic.

Actually the more I think about it, two hours probably makes more sense in that you dont need to deal with NYC traffic
