abomb4319
I have just baught a 54 331ci Caddy motor to replace my 55's 331. I have noticed that the rear of the 54 motor has a much larger engine belhousing compaired to the 55's. If I use the 55's original transmission, it will not work as is. Does anyone know if I swap the belhousing on the original 55's transmission to a 54 belhousing, will the 55 transmission fit on the 54 motor? will this work and will I be able to use the same torq. converter...? Or Do I just purchase a 54 transmission? If I do this, will the rest of the original drive train work (driveshaft). Thanks!
Bruce Nunnally
I see the transmission changed that year, so that would cause the different bell housing perhaps. This conversion kit or similar might be the thing, except you are doing it in reverse, with the 54 engine and the 55 transmission. This link is a similar adapter setup.
