so i got a 01 dts. not sure but think my head gasket is going.. is this a common problem and how much does it cost to fix. i heared it is a big job.. any mechanics near albany ny

What makes you think your head gasket is going?

How long have you owned it?

From 2000 on its not as common, but not unheard of, if the car has been abused by a lack of maintenance, meaning if the coolant is original or older than 5 years, it turns acidic and eats the head gasket coolant gets into the bolts and the threads corrode.

DO NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS, why do you think your head gasket is going, these engines can overheat due to a bunch of reasons

Not good symptoms. Yes it is a big job. The drivetrain has to be dropped out the bottom. Generally about a $3000 job. There is a guy in London Ontario that studs them for $2200 (I think). Rent the test kit from AutoZone or buy one from Napa and test the coolant for exhaust gases. Then you'll know for sure and you can go from there.
