Radio Disassemby

My CD player conked out last weekend and now I have the dreaded "CD ERROR" message...

I tried cleaning the "eye" with denatured alcohol and q-tip.. no luck...

So now I'm going to try and swap CD player "guts"

The tape player is held in with two small bolts... but the CD Player has at least on hidden bolt behind the face place...

Does anyone have pictures of a disassembled Caddy radio... I could have sworn I saw a post on here years ago where someone removed their face plate to replace a burnt out back lit bulb... Now I can't seem to find it...

Does this ring a bell?

Anyone done this?

OK, I did this and had GREAT success... the CD is once again alive and well...

I'll post pictures on my web site... It was a little more work then I had planned on but not impossible by any means.

If anyone is interested the steps are

1) Remove Radio from car (I'll assume that you know how to do that)

2) Remove single bottom cover screw and cover from the bottom of the radio, this will expose the Cassette player

3) Remove the four screws that hold in the Cassette player... remove the payer from the radio, but no need to unplug it...

4) (this is the hard part) Looking into the upside down radio, release the strip connector at the front left of the radio. This is the strip connector for the front panel, you release it by "flicking" at the lever part with your finger nail... If you've never taken one of these connectors apart...google it or youtube it... they are actually easy to release.

5) Put the Cassette player back in and temporarily hold it in with one of the 4 screws (this makes it easy to work on the radio)

6) Turn the radio over pull the volume knob off, remove the little round foam donut behind the knob.

7) Remove the 11mm nut (and washer) that holds the volume pot to the face plate.

8) Remove the top cover screw and top cover from the radio... this will expose the CD player. OUR PREY!

9) With two or three small flat head screw drivers (and maybe a helper) carefully pry the face plate off of the radio. It is one contained unit with a strip connector that you released in step 4.

10) Back to the radio body, on the main body, behind the face plate there are two silver colored screws that hold on the CD player, remove those and remove the two gold colored screws on the back... The CD player is FREE!... sorta anyway

11) The CD Player is held in by a pin connector... if its tight, "walk" it out of the radio with your fingers and a flat head screw driver.

12) Now simply repeat steps 1-12 on the donor radio to salvage the replacement CD player.

13) Press in the "new" CD player.

14) Reinstall the two silver and two gold screws

15) Snap the face plate back on after you have fished through the white strip connector and the volume pot.

16) Reinstall the cover plate and screw

17) Turn over the radio, remove the Cassette player again and connect the strip connector and snap it down.

18) Now install the Cassette player, all four screws,

19) Install the bottom cover and screw

20) Install the 11 mm pot nut and washer and foam thing... push the volume knob on.

There ya go... how to replace the CD player in your 2000-2004 radio in 20 easy steps LOL!

Probably works for 98 and 99 radios too!

Good Luck!
