I have this 98 deville I'm trying to sell cheap. I'm moving and just have too many cars. So any ways, I used the caddy to jump start another vehicle of mine, and when I got back into the caddy the battery light was on and the dash said that it was not charging. All the fuses are good. Did I blow a diode in the alternator? Is there a cheap fix or do I have to replace the alternator? If the latter is the case I think it's going to the salvage yard.

I NEVER jump another car with my cars, NEVER, for exactly the reason you just experienced

I would say that you did in fact damage your alternator

Where do you live, my Northstar is shot, how bad is your 98

I live in Spotsylvania Va. Other then it appears to need an alternator, it is in good shape.

I have cousins in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Charlottesville. Briefly describe your car for me, mine is dead, and being laid off, I can't really do much with it right now. Tell me your mileage and any problems and post some photos if you would and does it overheat?

If you are going to junk it maybe you will throw it my way

I'm not sure that the 1998 is 100% compatible, but what's a couple of drill-and-tap items for accessories?

If you accidentally put the cables on backwards on either car and drew a big arc, that's bad but not necessarily death. If your car was running when you did that, then it's possible that you would have a popped fusable link, fuse, or alternator diode or other part. I would look at the codes and check the maxifuse block.

If you did hook the cables up backwards with the engine running and you aren't willing to deal with the damage, then, hey, BBF, why not just put your 1996 alternator in it?

It isnt, if it runs good, Ill use it, mine is unusable at this point. I run it to keep the battery charged
