This should help your oil filter adapter is different than the NS's it uses a seal see this Document ID# 905886 2004 Cadillac SRX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oil Filter Adapter Replacement Removal Procedure Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement . Remove the A/C compressor and power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Power Steering and Air Conditioning . Important Do not disconnect the A/C pipes from the A/C compressor. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and reposition the A/C compressor in order to gain access to the oil filter adapter fasteners. Remove the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Removal . Oil Filter Adapter Removal Remove the oil filter cap. Remove and properly dispose of the oil filter cartridge. Re-install the oil filter cap. Remove the oil filter adapter bolts (1-3) from the engine block. Remove the oil filter adapter. Remove and discard the oil filter adapter gasket. Installation Procedure Install the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Installation . Install the A/C compressor with the A/C pipes to the engine. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Install the A/C compressor and power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Power Steering and Air Conditioning . Install the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement . Oil Filter Adapter Installation Position a NEW oil filter adapter gasket onto the oil filter adapter. Install the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2) into the oil filter adapter. Loosely tighten the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2). Install and loosely tighten the oil filter adapter bolt (3) into the oil filter adapter. Notice Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts (1, 2, 3) into the engine block in the sequence shown. Tighten Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts in sequence to 23 N·m (17 lb ft). Install a NEW oil filter cartridge. Notice Lubrication must be applied to the threads of the oil filter cap prior to installation. Failure to lubricate the oil filter cap threads can hinder later removal and cause possible oil filter cap damage. Lubricate the oil filter cap threads with clean engine oil. Notice Proper oil filter cap tightening is mandatory. Failure to tighten the oil filter cap to the proper specification can hinder later removal and cause possible oil filter cap damage.
