steve665
I just purchased a 1979 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. I see by the service records that the previous owner used the Cadillac radiator pellets when he changed the coolant a few years ago. I just changed the coolant today, and wonder if I should use them. The car has the 5.7 Oldsmobile engine. There are no leaks in the cooling system at this time.

KHE
It doesn't need them but they won't hurt anything either. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71

It's a possibility that if the previous owner was using the cooling system tablets, this could indicate that there is a cooling system leak somewhere and they were using the tablets to plug the leak. Possibly a cooling system pressure test to check for any leaks might be a good idea.

Possibly a cooling system pressure test to check for any leaks might be a good idea. Good point! I'm looking under it every day, and so far there are no leaks. Well, with the cooling system tablets installed, it shouldn't leak, unless it was a large leak. Those GM cooling system tablets are very effective and I can highly recommend them. A pressure test will put pressure throughout the cooling system above and beyond its normal pressure, so if there was a tiny leak somewhere, it might rear its ugly head and save you from the cost and hassle of having that leak eventually make its presence known while on a trip or what have you. If you open your phone book yellow pages under, "Automotive, Repair", you can call around to various auto centers and ask how much a cooling system pressure test is. It's not an expensive test, but could save you a big hassle. Might be a good idea to do this, especially considering you aren't certain of the vehicles true history. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and peace of mind is priceless. Might be a good idea to keep an eye on the coolant level every day too. With a pen, you can mark on the coolant overflow tank where the coolant level is when it is hot vs cold and if it drops below either of those lines, you know you have a leak somewhere. But again, the cooling system tablets will plug up a small leak. By the way, B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L car! Take good care of it, 'cause unfortunately they don't make them like that anymore! KHE
That is a very nice looking Eldorado! I always liked that style ('79-'85). How many miles, what color is the interior, etc? BTW, I wouldn't worry that someone installed sealant pellets in the cooling system. The Olds 350 was a rock solid engine. The engine is solid, but there could be leaks in the radiator, the heater core or anywhere in the cooling system.

SPreston2001
Beautiful car!!! Coolant tabs are not needed. Previous owner may have heard from a newer N* Caddy owner that coolant tabs are good for the system. Ditch the coolant tabs on your next coolant change and enjoy that sharp car!! How did you find your car? Was it for sale locally? Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71

Texas Jim
I had a 1984 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance with that interior in it. Probably the MOST COMFORTABLE SEATS I have ever had in a car.

Some of them, the wires were long enough, that if the seat was was in a certain position, the wire could get cut when the seat moved. Also check the fuse for the seat...but you have probably already did that. The switches sometimes would get corroded contacts and quit working. Everything under the seat looked good so I took the switch out of the arm rest, unplugged it from its socket and held it over a trash can and sprayed the heck out of it with electrical contact cleaner. That got it working well enough to adjust tilt and height, but the center contacts that move the seat back and forth are too corroded to work. Fortunately the seat is positioned comfortably enough for me to allow plenty of time to look for a reasonably priced power seat switch.
