winterset
is it an aftermarket part? not sure if aftermarget 02 sensors are ok to use. I know there are a few parts that aftermarket just do not perform well in these cars - and many members have had issues with aftermarket parts & reliability. I put some injector cleaner in it and thought maybe if i reset the codes it may not come back. There are two ways to reset the codes, the first is too complicated for me to explain quickly, the second is to disconnect the battery for about a minute (negative cable only, NOT positive) Injector cleaner is NOT advised, it can damage the fuel pump windings and damage the injector windings, use it ONLY according to the directions (on a full tank) and dont let it sit in the tank long, drive it out Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Simultaneously press and hold the OFF and PASSENGER WARMER buttons on the climate control panel and the system will enter diagnostocs. When you see PCM? on the information center, press the fan up button for "yes". PCM CODES? will be displayed - again press fan up to answer "yes". The system will display the PCM codes and then display PCM CLEAR CODES? Press the fan up button to clear the codes. Then press AUTO or turn the ignition to OFF to exit diagnostics. If you drove the car for 5 hours and it did not show any signs of overheating, you don't have a head gasket issue... If you add the sealant tabs, DO NOT add the tabs to the surge tank - that is a low flow area and the tabs will clog the purge line and then the engine WILL overheat. The sealant needs to be added to the lower radiator hose but you can disconnect the upper rad. hose and add them there to minimize the loss of coolant. It sounds like your friendly GM dealer knows exactly what is wrong with the car and he knows it isn't the head gasket... He's hoping you'll trade the car so he'll be able to sell you a car and lowball the trade. My bet is if you fell for this trick, either the mechanic, his wife or someone else at that dealership would wind up with your car for not a lot of money. Emission codes do not set to indicate an oil change is required... The CHANGE OIL SOON message will appear on the information center. Once you fix the O2 sensor that is causing the code/message to set, the car will probably be fine. P1139 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Insuff. That was the case on my '97 STS when I bought it. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
BodybyFisher
True Kevin, I was thinking that coolant in the oil on a NS has not been the biggest or most obvious symptom, whereas on the 4.9 that was a common occurence Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
