Delete any PM's from mignulik; contain Porn Links

Recommended Posts

I am sorry, if you have received a PM with PORN links in it. It appears that I was sent the PM also. If you received a PM with inappropriate links in it this morning send me the members name so I can confirm who the member is.

I dont get why people need to do these things

In the meantime if you receive a PM from someone you dont know with a just LINK in it, DONT CLICK IT..... I dont know what negative impact this can have to your computer (worms, spyware, etc)

Don't click the link if you do get a message. It's the easiest way to spread a viral infection.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

I have taken removed PM access for registered members for now. Sorry for the inconvenience and I will try to restore access as soon as I can prevent this type of issue.

This must be related to the 200+ guests on the board?

I was thinking that we got a rush of members on board if they have email notification enabled, they went to their email, saw that they had a message and came here to check the message? We broke a record today for members on line

Come on now. I know it was Bruce just trying to get more member activity on the board. Of course I'm kidding. It was just a matter of time before something like this happened. I'm surprised it wasn't sooner. Because of the dynamics of the board security, BBF and Bruce should see many attempts at hijacking their login and pw. One of the best ways I can think of is the low tech approach. Hijack a friendly member account and send a file or link to the mother ship (that would be Bruce or BBF). Many high tech securities are breeched via low tech approaches. This PM from mignulik was pretty obvious but curiosity will sometimes get even the most diligent. Hope all is well.

Hello,

I also received one this morning. Followed the link and tried to open it, as I thought someone was interested in buying my '90 Eldorado.

I hadn't read the forum yet this morning, or your post. I got an error message stating that I couldn't use the message function, which got

me fired up. Now I see (hope) it was related to the inappropriate use of the forum by another person.

I sent a "reply" to the email notification from your site regarding the PM, and sent it back with the links, originator's name, etc.

Regards,

Mike

Okay, I appear to have deleted any PM from that user. Now I just need to address how to keep a random person from shotgunning so many PMs again.

In case I missed anyone who emailed or PM's me, here is the summary:

It was a spam PM with a link to a bad site. I have erased all the pm's

from that person, and temporarily turned off PM's for registered

users until we get the next patch in place to prevent.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

thanks,

bruce

The Forum has a new patch applied, and I have turned back on PM's for registered users.

IF you do get any PM from anyone you don't know please treat it as you would any other mail from a person you don't know.

Also let me know via PM or Report.

I got one too! Thinking the 'need help' meant just that, I opened it. Not shocked, but worried, I did a full AV scan....nothing found. Actually, I don't 'need help' to find porn... :)

So Regis, do you think we should have sophistocated passwords? My guess is that a good password should include upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols, the problem is that when you need to enter them, they can be tedious to input.

The forum software manufacturer moved up the release of their fix to today. Apparently they have gotten a barrage of problems similar to what happened for us lately.

We now have the fix in place here.

Interestingly, today the same thing happened on another site that I am a member of. The Dahlquist Speaker Forum, I got a link to a sex site on it in a PM... So this appears to be a wide ranging problem.

I am currently rebuilding a pair of 20 year old Dahlquist M-907's.... Mike

I want to thank member lxndrtg for bringing this to my attention at seven minutes to 9 this morning, that was very fast, given that the perp joined about 8:30. Thanks again for acting so quickly, Mike

Bruce:

When do you plan to enable PM again? I have a question or two for Warren regarding Eldos.

I think our hosting service (the same people who make the forum software) has PM's disabled for now.

Yes, they had instructions for me to follow to turn the pm system back on, and you should be able to use it now.

Sorry for the delay. Please report any misbehavior on PM's.
