zendamurray
Need help to narrow the problem down because I need to sell... 1991 Cadillac Seville Engine: V8 4.9 Liter Transmission: Automatic Drivetrain: FWD Initially the engine would turn, lights would turn on, display on dash would turn but the engine would not start. I checked the next day and the lights seemed to dim and when I tried to start it sounded like it was the battery was not giving enough power. Now the key turns to nothing, no lights on dashboard and the power locks don't work. I tried to jump and the lights came on, sounded like it was trying to turn but didn't This car belonged to my grandfather (who passed) who did all of the mechanical work on his own cars. I am trying to sell for a family member but I would like to narrow down what the problem is before I sell. I don't want someone to take advantage of me and try to say it is something more serious. I can go buy a new battery, but I don't have a lot of spare time and I'm not exactly how to install. Basically i'm looking for any help/advice anyone can give. Thanks for your help and time. adallak
Firstly, you need a good battery to run diagnostics. Your car has onboard diagnostics. Turn the ignition on, press Wormer and Off simultaneously until trouble codes appear on the driver info center. Wright them down and post here. BTW, some stores can charge your battery and load test it, so you would not buy another battery. Remove watches, rings , etc. from your hands. Take a 8 mm wrench or pliers and disconnect NEGATIVE cable first. Move the cable away from the battery. The poitive one is RED. There are + and - on the battery too. Place the battery in your trunk so teh terminals would not get shorted. There is a retainer on th ebottom of the battery. You need to unscrew it to release the battery. AutoSTORE will charge it too, you do not have to mess with auto shops... Ranger
From what you have said, I would think the battery is dead and will need to be replaced.
