Scary Brief Engine Misfire

Recommended Posts

Look for a late 2002 or newer if it is possible to get them at the right price. They have magnaride and the DVD-based navi with voice-recognition as options too!

What in the world is going on here? I remember a time, not that long ago, when the recommendation would be to WOT that sucker!

Had the same issue with my '99, couple of WOT's and it was fine for another 30,000.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

This one seems too good to be true (likely needs something?); 00 SLS or STS with 114K miles at $2,500.

Maybe private seller; hard to tell.

The rear does not look good to me.

Caveat Emptor.

My high-mileage (185K miles) '98 STS could not be purchased for $2,500!!

That car looks like a beater to me... You'd think "Selvestor" the owner would have washed it before taking the pictures. The ad says "perfect interior" but look at the driver's side carpet...

My car is shuttering on start up for about 20 seconds, no coolant loss that I can see, it goes away and runs normal.... I do have a P1406 EGR code current most of the time.. I need to pull it this weekend and clean it up. This is scaring me, as I am afraid that I am leaking coolant into a combustion chamber and it misfires till its purged, but NO misfire code, unless 20 seconds is too short of an interval.

I should go out and look it over tomorrow, I hate working on the car in the cold, and my car suffers from neglect in the winter...

I know that feeling well. :D

I will try to make it up to her as soon as it is warm for a few days and I have some time. :D

I need to clean it GOOD...inside and out, give it a good coat of wax...clean and condition the leather seats, maybe shampoo the carpets, just for good measure..etc..etc..etc :D

I don't really trust anyone else to do it RIGHT, so I end up doing it myself.

oh I like the looks of this one. 72k miles on an 01 Eldo

Very pretty. I just flat out love the shale interior! Great miles. Greater price; I paid $13K for mine 14 months ago. They're giving these things away now!

(In early January I went to look at an '04 XLR: $31K with less than 9,000 miles on it. Unfortunately it had already been sold.)

I wonder why it has the wrong wheels on it. Not a matter of import, I'd guess.

If this baby's in good shape it'll make some buyer very happy. I'd guess it would hold its value for a while also inasmuch as it's being sold in a distressed market.

Warren

I hope prospective buyers check the title for year model confirmation. How likely is it a vehicle built in July of 2000 would be accurately registered as a 2001 model?

The VIN reads correctly, 1G6EL12Y31B101080

1 US

G GM

6 Cadillac

EL Eldorado ESC

1 Coupe

2 Active Restraint

Y LD8 Engine

3 checksum

1 YEAR: 2000 would be Y; 1 seems correct for 2001.

B Assy plant

101080 serial

In 2000 they renamed the base Eldorado the ESC, so not the same thing as back in 93 when it meant something between a base model and an ETC.

Model year changeover is usually the first two weeks of July so the car is a very early 2001.

That is a beauty, it appears to be that Pearl White, very nice. Do you think this car has a trunk mounted CD player?, I dont see a slot on the dash for a CD.

Those of you that have Magnetic Ride Control, can you feel the difference?, are their obvious benefits? (thanks Jan)

It feels a bit harder but the handling is excellent! I guess it depends on the kind of driving you are going to do. Magnaride does som very evil things to your driving style :P

Mike,

Mine has Magnetic Ride Control.

I don't know if it is the same kind/type that is in the El Dorado or not.

As Jan says in another post...it will do evil things to your driving style. :D

It will occasionally make you drive your 2 ton+ Cadillac, like a sports car.

But in all seriousness, it gives you a more solid..more planted to the road feel.

I find that mine is actually smoother on rough roads with less body pitch and roll than the cars without Mag Ride.

I have driven other DTS's WITHOUT the Mag Ride.

There IS a fair amount of difference between them.

In my humble opinion...if you have little to no experience with the Mag Ride, you will never know the difference, but once you get used to the Mag Ride, nothing else will suit you. :D

As I said, thats just my PERSONAL opinion.

I got a close look at the white STS for sale in my neighborhood. Badly damaged air dam as well as passenger side doors that don't line up correctly tells me the car has been involved in a serious accident and it was not properly repaired. Interior didn't look too hot either, driver's seat had ripped leather. I don't know what the owner is asking in price but I have a feeling it's not going to be worth it at any price. Looks like a '93, by the way.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Yep, non-Bose; no dash CD. The trunk-mounted CD player is rarely optioned on these cars. It can easily be added and is available on Ebay for around $200-$275. Plug 'n Play, although you'll need the Cadillac-supplied mounting bracket.

Warren

The 01 Eldo reposted down from $5800 to $5300. That could help pay for most of your flight down to get the car. [orbitz shows $224 one way LeGuardia LGA to DFW on a Friday]

It would be a 25 hour drive back to Hauppauge, but you'd be used to the new Eldo by then.

You'd want to fly into DFW, then Texas Jim or I could get you to McKinney depending on what day you come in.

My schedule is usually pretty flexible.

There should be no problem picking you up.

On the drive back to NY...it may not take near that long...the Eldo is a NICE road car. :D:D

You may make much better time than you thought. :D:D

Thanks Jan and Jim for your impressions, I recently saw a video illustrating magnetic ride control on a Vette, the differences were obvious, here is the video

WOW you guys are great, I appreaciate it greatly.. It is still a pre-mature for me to purchase anything, I am getting ready to go back to Miami for 8 weeks, and I should be in better financial shape when I return... Thanks for doing this prospecting. Mike
