BodybyFisher
Ok this concerned me today. I never experienced this before in my 96 Deville. I was late for the Suffolk County women's high school basketball championship (Copiague vs Wyandanch) and opened it up this morning for about 20 miles of between 75 and 80. Got to the game, after the game, started the car and the engine was misfiring, choking and rough as I backed out of the parking space, when I put it in drive, it misfired for about 3 seconds and then the misfire went away. I did not get a misfire code or a flashing CEL. It was damp out due to the warm temps yesterday and today that melted the snow. Lately I have been driving the hell out of it. This concerned me because misfires don't just come and go and I am hoping that this is not the beginning of a head gasket problem. Temps are normal. I did I little thinking and I need to explore these items: Fuel Pressure Regulator (replaced with AC DELCO 2 years ago) Ignition Wires (definately bad) Oil in Spark Plug ports Carbon tracking at coils or bad connection at coils Fuel pump? Water in fuel EGR issue (have been getting a P1406 intermittantly) What do you guys think?, with no codes having set? Marika
Maybe you just dislodged some carbon inside the cylinders running the old grandfather clock. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Texas Jim
Mike, Since you mentioned the change in temperature and humidity...my first guess would be a bad plug wire. How old are your wires and plugs? It is possible for the wires to get condensation in them when they cool off. I had a Chevy 396 that ran great in Texas, but when I went on a trip to the deep south where the humidity was real high...I had to put a new set of plug wires on it. It would miss for a three or four minutes each morning when I started it. The second day that it did it...in Mobile Alabama...I put a new set of wires on it. That fixed the problem. I hope yours is also that easy to fix.

Sorry to disappoint, but a '92 Seville was NEVER a grandfather clock. Think of it more as an over-sized sports car Listen, take my advice and don't get something that looks too much like money if this is just to impress a girl. You'll regret it if you do. Get what YOU want, if she doesn't like it she can take the bus or drive her own car. There's a white SLS or STS (didn't notice which) in the neighborhood for sale, if you want I can get the phone number on the window and you can check it out. Totally up to you. winterset
Yep - if you have a P0146 (EGR) in history, than that was the cause of the stumbling. The first time mine chocked on the EGR, I had the same symptoms. It felt like I was accelerating in an old school carb car on a freezing cold night, while the engine was still cold, & I had a vacume leak. just take the EGR off, & spin the pintle with a torx on a drill. BTW I think it is a bad idea to get rid of the '96 Deville. it's a sexy car. I still get looks in mine.
