skcusloa
I'm a technician working at a toyota dealer. Lube techs dad blew the motor up in it and I had to put a salvage motor in. The battery was out for a long time and I guess it forgot it's key. Gives the message: Starting disabled remove key. I've heard several ways of relearning and none of them have worked. What the guy at chevy told me: Try to start it 3x in 30 minutes and leave the ignition on. Doesn't work. Leave the key on accesory for an hour. Doesn't work. Thanks for any info. By the way I have a whole bunch of spare sensors and stuff. Coil packs, throttle body, etc...

By the way I have a whole bunch of spare sensors and stuff. Coil packs, throttle body, etc... I had to do a security relearn on my 2006 DTS after I replaced my Engine Control Module. This is for my DTS...I hope it works for the CTS also. MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED. The ignition will be on for over a half hour. Turn on the key, try to start it, leave key in the "ON" position. Wait until the security light goes off..about 10 minutes. Remove key. Re-insert key after 10 seconds but before 15 seconds and try to start it again...leave key in the "ON" position. Wait till the security light goes off..about 10 minutes. Remove key. Wait 10 to fifteen seconds...put key in and try to start it. It should start now, after the third time the security light goes out.

Bruce Nunnally
When you put in the salvage motor did you keep the PCM and calibration from the old engine? May need a Tech II to re-set to the key, or could be a connection issue still.
