CV replacement

Going to replace the CV axles on the Eldo tonight, should the transmission fluid be drained? and should the C-clips/circlips be replaced on the tranny? or tranny seals?

You might get a little bit of tranny fluid from the tranny when you pull the axle out, typically I have that side of the car jacked up so it tilts the fluid away. If you get a pry bar behind the axle it will pop right out, there is a snap ring on the end of the axle in a groove that snaps into the transaxle, you just need to pop it out of its home in the tranny.. look at the new axles and you will see the ring. No c clips to worry about.

Dont forget to lube the smooth part of the axle that goes into the tranny liberally with clean tranny fluid so that the axle seal is lubed and not dry and burned up from the new axle.

If you see the seals leaking, NOW would be a good time to replace them, I replaced mine, use an appropriate 'tool' to seat the seal like a big socket, etc. Dont bang the seal too hard so as to NOT crack or damage the tranny case. If I recall the new seals have a bead of grease in the channel

I have the hub puller and a slide hammer with the two prong attachment so it should make it easy to get it out. I already have the new shafts and there is a groove deep in the sides that slides onto the tranny but there is no ring in there. I assumed the ring would be on the transmission shaft?? So your saying the ring belongs to the CV and not to the tranny shaft? Hmmmm.

The circlip is in the trans. housing. It should stay there when the CV axle is removed.
