i got a p1189 code (oil pressure switch). i saw on another forum that the oil pressure switch may be loose and just needs to be disconnected and reconnected and sometimes the problem goes away. anybody know where this switch is located? its on the oil filter adaptor, wherever that is.

The oil pressure switch pictured below is attached to the oil filter adapter. The oil filter and oil filter adapter are on the front of the engine facing forward to the left of the centerline as you face the engine.

Here is a photo of an oil filter adapter from my 96

Actually if the oil pressure switch show low oil pressure for more than a few seconds, you will get an urgent message on the DIC to shut down the engine. I don't know what else it does, if anything.

The code says its for the oil pressure switch circuit. You must get it fixed, just don't ignore this code or you can trash your engine if for some reason the oil pressure drops. These engines CAN at times have certain problems that can affect the oil pressure, so don't tempt it.

This code should be easy to diagnose. As you said check the connection at the switch. Chase the wire down under the exhaust manifold to make sure that it did not touch the manifold and melt to it shorting it.

In the mean time either I or someone here will check the factory service manual to see what causes this code asap.. Mike
