No but I just saw the front page of a car mag talking about a 2 door CTS coming soon, the V version has a 556 hp engine.

Yes, I think the CTS Coupe will be the natural choice for Eldo fans. It has been delayed a bit but should be on the street soon. Base engines will be similar to the CTS choices ? but we may see a V variant later.

Wow 556 hp in a 2dr coupe!! Cadillac is definetely trying to shake its "grandpa" image!!

I miss the "grandpa" image. I want the big, heavy, smooth riding Cadillacs that used to be. Now THOSE were cars. If I want a sporty fast car, I'll buy a Corvette. I want my Cadillacs to be big, fancy, and comfy.

The Deville will always be there. It's no more going away than the Mercedes sedan is going away because they have an AMG model or two now.

The V-series is, in part, a response to the rest of the market. Mercedes' market share began to emerge when they got away from the standard-shift SOHC fours and Diesels and moved upscale in performance and luxury in th e1970s; they were the Checker of Germany, ubiquitous as taxicabs, up until the Autobahn make a local German market for high-performance road cars. BMW moved upscale, and in recent years we have the in-house Mercedes AMG performance line and the BMW M-series that began in the late 1980's.

Cadillac has the manufacturer's crown for the Trans Am series. I have had replies to messages here that say that BMW and Mercedes weren't competitive because they didn't want to be, but in fact there is NO SEDAN CLASS in the Trans Am series; the top-class competition in Trans Am, which Cadillac won with the CTS-V, is Porsche 911's, Vipers and Corvettes. Nothing else is both eligible and competitive with these cars in the production GT class, or someone would be racing it. Thus Cadillac proved, and continues to prove, that the V series is more than just a performance upgrade on luxury sedans, but, with the proper options, is competitive with the best the world has to offer in sports/GT cars, with a four-door sedan that you can buy at your local Cadillac dealer -- with even more horsepower because Trans Am eligibility puts a limit on engine output.

The reason that I bought my ETC in 1997 instead of an STS was that the two-door for that year was lighter by about 200 pounds, and the best 0-60 times in Car & Driver for the ETC were 6.3 seconds as opposed to 6.5 seconds for the STS. I knew about the slightly shorter wheel base, but six inches is really quite a bit, and it steers and handles noticeably more responsively in everyday driving than the four-door loaners that I got when I had my car serviced. After 1998 the STS times have been more like 6.8 seconds and the ETC went static and Car & Driver lost interest in it.

If they do have a two-door CTS-V, they may make it more competitive in the corners, or they may not. If the wheelbase is shorter than that of the four-door, as they did with the E and K platforms of 1992-1997, that is a possibility, although a shorter wheelbase may be a disadvantage in high-speed braking at the end of the straights. Time will tell.

A two door car is pretty much MANDATORY for me. The CTS is my last hope for a two door Caddy.

I'd rather a Coupe De Seville or Coupe De Ville, but it's just plain silly to even think of those things.

I prefer a more massive vehicle. The current Eldorado is as close as I can get.

Many of my friends drive Civics and I don't hold any grudges, but in an accident situation I'd prefer to run them over without suffering too many suspension difficulties.

Regards,

Warren

the new CTS-V is supercharged with 550 or so hp. a fair amount less than the ZR-1. i would expect the 2 door version to have the same motor. i also think the non-blown LS motor is not available in a new CTS-V? seems odd to me. why not also offer a 400hp version as well? the corvette is base, Z0-6 and ZR-1. or maybe the Z0-6 is gone?

Yeah I too prefer a more "massive" vehicle. The CTS is nice but im 6'3 so I need all the leg room I can get. My current STS fits me but I only have room for 2-3 passengers because I totally take up the backseat behind me. My son has to sit in the passenger side backseat so I could only imagine what a CTS would feel like. I remember the first time I drove a 95 Camaro and man was I cramped up! For the body of a Camaro to be so long it sure doesnt have any interior space. And as far as a Coupe De Seville, I think thats what the Eldorado turned into. Eldorados have looked like 2 door Sevilles for quite some time so I fear that Cadillac my have banished the Eldo in favor of the smaller CTS coupe.

I am 6'5" 230, I prefer a big car also. Based on discussions with Kevin (KHE), I don't think it would be smart for me to get a car with a sun roof due to the reduced head clearance, a freak front end collision could break my neck. I prefer to have some beef around me, its not my driving that I am concerned with its the other drivers on the highway losing control etc.

Look at these photos to see how some of the 'lighter' vehicles on Long Island survive in collisions, Ill stick with my heavy Cadillac thank you.

The 2000..2003 FWD Seville/STS and the 2003..2009 CTS are actually quite similar in interior dimensions.

The CTS has a 0.8" more headroom, the FWD STS had 2" more rear legroom.

I would say in terms of front leg room, Cadillac has selected 42.5" as the necessary measure.

2003 STS specs:

Front head room 38 "

Rear head room 38 "

Front shoulder room 59 "

Rear shoulder room 58 "

Front hip room 56 "

Rear hip room 58 "

Front leg room 42.5 "

Rear leg room 38.2 "

2009 CTS specs:

Head Room (front) (in.) 38.8

Head Room (rear) (in.) 37.2

Shoulder Room (front) (in.) 56.7

Shoulder Room (rear) (in.) 54.7

Hiproom (front) (in.) 55.1

Hiproom (rear) (in.) 54.1

Leg Room (front) (in.) 42.4

Leg Room (rear) (in.) 35.9

RWD STS Leg Room (rear): 38.3 "

Of course the 2009 DTS is larger:

Head Room (front) (in.) 39.2

Head Room (rear) (in.) 38.6

Hiproom (front) (in.) 56.9

Hiproom (rear) (in.) 56.7

Leg Room (front) (in.) 42.5

Leg Room (rear) (in.) 41.6

Shoulder Room (front) (in.) 60.0

Shoulder Room (rear) (in.) 59.2

Wow thats impressive. I thought the CTS would be alot smaller on the inside. So is it safe to say the Cadillac line up will be limited to DTS, STS, CTS, SRX, and Escalade truck series for the foreseeable future?
