Mini Cooper has built 500 all-electric cars which they will be leasing out for one year in the New York, New Jersey and Southern California areas. All cars will be inspected every 3,000 miles and the lease price includes ALL maintenance. The car is capable of a 150 mile range. Read about it at the link above.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

All leased models, but I like when companies actually do trials and put cars out there. I find that baby steps lead to break-throughs.

GM has been doing similar trials with Hydrogen powered models, and of course has the extended range electric vehicle the Volt on the way soon.

Exciting videos, but I wouldn't drive that lunch box at those speeds without at least 45 air bags in three time delayed layers. :D

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

That lunch box is built like a tank, albeit a small one....

Just how small is that lunch box you want to drive at speed???

I'm short of air bags, but I'll run ya if you want to do that Mini silliness. :D :D :(:D

I will eat you lunch. Are you on a diet?

No more lunch boxes for me. A little extra size, weight, and steel go a long way. 5 Star crash ratings only matter if you plan on hitting a vehicle of similar size and weight. Let's hear it for the 5 Star rating then, yippy! Now if you plan on taking on a Hummer with it's, battered in the media, 4 Star rating then you might as well take away 4 Stars if not all 5. Few vehicles can match the sheer size and mass of the Hummer so 4 Stars is fairly reliable I'd say.
