watch your wheels

For those of you that have an 05 Deville DTS or older watch your wheels it looks as though if you have the crome wheels they have become a very hot item with the five finger discount crew over the last holiday weekend my car was in my drive way taking a break and looking good but when I came back home on the sunday she was sitting on her nose with her butt high in the air and the milk crates that the a holes had used had crushed and droped the car so now some 7000.00 dollars later.

I want to find way to electranfry my car so if some one touches it they can fry.

not sure if pictures will post but here they are.

THAT SUCKS. :(

Sometimes I think it is too bad we don't still have some of the Olde English laws about thieves.

Cutting off hands..etc etc etc

May be cruel, but they wouldn't steal again.

I would be sorely tempted to drop someone in their tracks if I caught them messing with my car.

I think that a Fi-Shock controller with a wire running to a convenient point, say a spade connector that you put on a door jamb or any screw connected to the unibody, with the wire running under the closed door, trunk or hood, will do it. :fighting0025:

Sorry to hear. Locking lug nuts are another approach.

Some thieves carry around a set of keys for the common locking lug nuts. They'll also take an old socket, and a hammer, and pound it on the lug nut. Ruins the socket but still lets them take it off.

If I ever had a set of nice rims I'd use a couple different brands of locking lug nuts.

WARNING: I'm a total car newbie, don't be surprised if I ask a stupid question! Just trying to learn.

Cheers!

Re the locking lugs,

A nice idea to keep some honest people, more honest.

However, piddle a little liquid nitrogen on the lugs and they can be snapped off easily.

Perhaps the tire pressure indicators can be used as tire theft alarms as well. If the tires move away from the car too far and/or too long, the system goes wild.

A logical extension of that alarm and electronic-handshake is a small shaped charge inside to "solve the problem at the source". Drive away with my tires/rims, and they self-destruct - taking you with 'em. Alas, there may be a few technical, leagal and quasi-moral issues to over come with that idea.

Sorry about your loss.

Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.

It would seem to me that a shocking device with enough power to drop a thief, may also have unwanted side effects on the car's electronics. :wipetears

You are probably lucky that they didn't take the whole car & strip it at their leisure. :(

I agree that messing with one's ride should give the owner license to rearrange the perp's looks & ability to walk! :fighting0030:

After my post I thought about just that very issue myself. Whether the electric fence contact affects your electronics or not depends on whether they are actually exposed to them. The car's electronics are well protected from static charges and discharges on the car body for obvious reasons. If the electric fence is hooked to the car body or other ground, and kept away from the wiring, it should be OK. Of course, I can't guarantee that without experimentation.

I think that the realistic solution is a multi-tiered defense: care where you park, garaged at home if possible, 3rd floor or higher in parking garages, noisy car alarm, and good insurance.

I wonder if one were to take a permanent marker and write the following on the inside of the wheel before the new tires were mounted: If the owner isn't "Your Name Here" and/or the person buying tires can't prove legal ownership of the vehicle, call the police - the wheels are stolen.

The tire monkeys might not even see it or do anything about it and it may throw off the road force balance  but it might help catch a wheel thief.

If you need a set, I actually have a set sitting in my garage.

Chrome DTS 2001 wedge wheels.

I bought a set of 2007 DTS chrome take offs.

I'm still mulling on how to get rid of the older DTS set. I suspect they will end up on eBay.

At one time the manufacturers put the VIN on the back of the wheels where it was easily seen on the vehicle with a damp rag and a mirror. Identify a spot for your VIN, find a machine shop that has letter-number impact dies, and the next time you have your wheels off, taken them and your registration (with VIN on it) and get it done.

Yes they did damage car the jack spot on the frame was crushed to the point that it was rolled up and in. and just the rims were 800.00 for just one so 800.00 x 4

248.00 x4 for nich tires, so its like this 3573.76 rims,301.20 for center caps, 240.24 for tpms, 98.80 for 20 lug nuts as they even took them valve stems three stage paint job as I have the glacier white paint job repair and paint front bumper and rear one as the beat the hell out of the bottom of both of them and its going to go higher as I was informed that the body shop found other damage like an eng mount and some other items so it looks like it might be in the area of 10,000.00 and as far as where did I park it it was in my driveway no garage here no room to put one and we all know that in your driveway one of the safest place to put your car wish I were at home because the 50 rounds of hollow point jacketed round in my glock 40 cal would have been all used up.

If your comprehensive insurance covers any of this, they might be interested enough to make suggestions.

Insurance is going to cover all of it minus dedutable so I am really not out but it still a pain in the as to have to deal with it.BTW Lights were on outside and some inside and the police station is just 1/2 mile away and they drive down main drag at least every 30 mins and have stright view of my drive way if they look to the west as they drive by so these guys just did not care.

Good news then on the coverage. Cardio Doc [link to his ebay auctions] is a great source of replacements.
