eldorado98
My voltage usually reads 14.1 but this morning I noticed it was down to 13.2 at startup. (yes, I'm one of those nuts who goes thru the whole system before I start moving.) I left the reading on and it went from 13.2 to 13.8, settled in at 13.8 then went to 14.1. I stopped at a store and watched the reading go down to 13.1 then up to 13.8. Started the car after about 5 minutes and it was at 14.1. Please tell me it's the battery and not the alternator. It did this a few months ago but then settled back to 14.1 at all times. Any ideas about what might be going on??
JimD
I don't see anything to be alarmed about with the numbers you provided. There are many variables that determine system voltage at any moment in time: battery charge state time since last engine crank total vehicle electrical demand alternator RPM ambient temperature And that's only a partial list. Bweezy311
I literally just went through a battery voltage nightmare that I finally got fixed (See my forum thread). Your voltages are in the acceptable range. You shouldn't be worried. If you start getting a High Battery Voltage warning then you have an alternator problem. If you must you can simply take it to a shop and have them run a diagnostic test on your battery and alternator, but my guess is that everything will pass. BodybyFisher
It looks normal to me, stop looking at it In the winter time, you will see higher changing rates. But varying voltages that you are seeing is ok. That said, your lights are not flickering are they?, some alternator conditions (bad brushes) will cause flickering. eldorado98
My mechanic checked out the battery and says it's about ready to give up the ghost. Says it should last til Winter. Alternator checked out good.
