TDK
Since you removed and replaced the battery, it may have developed an internal problem (between cells) that only manifests itself when high amperage is drawn, (like when attempting to start). How old is the battery? Does the power level remain steady when trying to start? Can you run the onboard diagnostic codes? (press off and warmer at the same time). Have you tried to jump it with another vehicle? Are you certain the frame ground is OK as well? Good Luck! Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning. BodybyFisher
Make sure the positive cable is tight. The positive cable has two wires in it with a lead lug between them, one wire is for the STARTER and one wire goes to the alternator and relay center. Take the red insulator off and clean out all of the corrosion. Make sure the bolt is not bottoming out before the cable is tight. jking220
Does anyone know if these are pellet-resistor type keys? Is it possible he hurt the key when he dropped it? I know he doesnt have a key code, which kinda throws a wrench in my idea. Does the car do anything when you try to start it? Does it click? Did you disturb anything else while pulling out the battery? (like moving wires aside?) Jonah
Ranger
Does anyone know if these are pellet-resistor type keys? '94? Yes.
NEWCADYOWNER
my key does have the pellt resistor on it but it wasnt on the key ring that i dropped.... the batterry voltage in the car dash says 13.7 and after trying to start/ or crank it it dropps about .4 to around 13.3........ the car does make a slight clicking sound not very loud at all.... and if i dont turn the key completely over when trying to start it makes a noise almost like a small little electric motor spinning (in engine compartment)... THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE ADVICE / SUGGESTIONS YOU HAVE AND/OR WILL MAKE.
KHE
Sounds like a case of corrosion between the multiple positive battery cables. Remove the negative and then the positive battery cables. Clean any corrosion you see - especally between the cables. BodybyFisher
On the 94 you can take the plenum cover off and tap on the starter. Maybe your solenoid coincidently went bad during that job. DO NOT start the engine with the plenum cover off, you will get run away RPM and potentially cause damage. Disable your ignition coils first, by disconnecting the power connector at the ICM. Be sure to TEST that the engine only cranks and won't start. Just let me be sure that you took the positive cable apart and cleaned the cable ends and lead lug (#3) between them, here is a diagram of the positive cable. Be sure to get the red insulators off, and that the washer is in the correct location Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
adallak
i just bought a new battery, and new terminals... it still makes a click when i try and start... NO crank everything in the car works.... Sounds like a bad starter solenoid. The starter should be removed to replace the solenoid or the starter itself. NEWCADYOWNER
i took the starter in to advance and they tested it it was bad so i bought a new one and it does the exact same thing!!!!!! TDK
NEWCADYOWNER, You have indeed paid enough for simply dropping the dang keys. Perhaps the gear selector safety switch is out of position? Try to move the gear selector around and also try to start it in neutral (with the brake on). About all I can think of next is to start going through fuses and a "Troubleshooting Logic" per a FSM (Factory Service Manual). Good Luck! Add power to leave problems behind. WTF!!! so pissed off WHAT COULD IT BE????????????? By the way, I have replaced the original starter with a reaman. ACDelco one, and it had a bad solenoid right out of box. I still have to start it several times to geth the engine running. Bad luck I guess. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

WTF!!! so pissed off WHAT COULD IT BE????????????? Did they test this one you installed?, not likely huh? If your old one tested bad, I would immediately take this starter out and have them test it. It may also be bad. HOWEVER, if it tests bad, DO NOT BUY another rebuilt one, get an AC DELCO rebuilt or a new AC DELCO. Get your money back and go to ROCKAUTO.COM or find an AC DELCO distributor. winterset
Test all the + cables from the battery. sometimes there is corrosion within the wire, and when you disturbed it, the internal wires snapped. also check for corrosion at the cripms. perform a continunity test. make sure all 3 cables are getting voltage - especially at the starter. also check the ground cables. not sure what the motor noise is? ISC/fuel pump? blower motor/ air pump?

Personally I wouldn't go to AAMCO, but its up to you. You are better off getting a reference from someone for a good mechanic, even then its risky, to go to a shop COLD to me is really risky. Keep in mind that I believe you got a bad starter, if I were you I would pull out that starter and take it to the shop you bought it from and see how it tests.... The northstar is tough at first, but once you get familiar with it you will love it, its very different than other engines. If you need help or diagrams let us know, if we can post a procedure, it might make the job easier for you.
