trillium
First my A/C quit, had it checked to find oriface tube plugged with white stuff and metal particles. Had lines flushed then I installed a new compressor. condenser, accululater and new oriface tube. I added pag oil to each item. Took my car to a shop to do a vacuum test and held vacuum for 30 minutes. I then added freon from with 12 oz cans I bought. System took only about a 1 lb and 8 oz to get really cold so added no more as lines and accumulator sweating. After a few days I noticed the green leak detection dye on the floor of my garage and after a week warm air blowing on the driver side. The leak is coming from the valve the freon was added. Cadillac Jim
It sounds like a bad Schrader valve. If so, it's a very inexpensive item. Did you put the metal cap back over it? If so, check the O-ring seal in it and replace if necessary -- the O ring may be the only repair you need. The system only holds two pounds. That's 32 ounces. But, if you pumped it down to a vacuum after changing the dryer-accumulator, it should take 16 ounces. I don't have the amount of compressor oil handy. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. trillium
The valve is like a tire valve and it is welded into the line. However, the stem seems sunkin in a bit. The O rings seem in tack, should I have replaced this O ring as part of my procedure? Thanks for your input.
Ranger
I think you can replace the valve stem. The cap should not have to be replaced unless the seal inside is bad.
trillium
Thank you all. I will work on this in the next couple of days.
KHE
Did the valve have a cap? The cap is the primary seal - the schraders usually leak without a cap installed. As others have stated, make sure the schrader valve is tight. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
