Quick roadtrip report - Dallas to Houston

Recommended Posts

Had a quick road trip from Plano (north of Dallas) to Houston yesterday. Door to door about 288 miles each way, so a hefty commute. I was stuck in bumper to bumper stop and go rush hour traffic through Dallas to get southeast to Houston, so that had a negative impact on fuel economy. I just left the average running though to see how it turned out. On the way in to Houston I was also in bumper to bumper traffic, but moving along okay. On the way back from Houston I was not only in heavy stop and go traffic, but also in a monsoon rain due to the hurricane nearby. Once I got out of the Houston traffic headed back north it was smooth sailing. The average mpg for the trip slowly climbed up from the morning rush hour commute throughout the day. I was surprised to see the CTS instant mpg indicate 30+ mpg for some stretches. As I pulled into my neighborhood the average mpg for the whole trip hit 26.0 mpg. Now I wish I had reset it to see what it averaged out on the highway away from traffic.

Nice trip all in all. Plenty of time to enjoy the Dallas skyline on the way through, then the Houston skyline on the way into town there. The tree-top tall statue of Sam Houston near Huntsville is certainly remarkable. It stands along Interstate 45.

Again, the CTS is a terrific touring car. This turned out to be a 14 hour round trip, but the Cadillac was flawless.
