Rammstein751
Well guys, I just started driving my (new to me) 93 Cadillac Eldorado. I am getting some errors though, such as the "Service Ride Control" message, along with the Check Engine Light. I followed the directions on here, and pulled the following codes: P023, P036, P052, P074, P083, P109 that are all followed by "History." No ICP, ACP, SIR, or TCS codes. S044, S060, and S071 followed by "History," while the code S061 was followed by "Current." According to the list these are in need of service: P023 (E023) ..................... Electronic Spark Timing (EST) Signal problem [EGR] P036 (E036) ................................. EGR Valve Pintle Position Out of Range P052 (E052) .................................................. ..... PCM Memory Reset P074 (E074) ................................................ Intermittent MAT Signal P083 (E083) .................................. Crankshaft to Ignition Module Failure P109 (E109) ....... Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Reset/PCM has lost primary battery power S044 .................................................. ... Lift or Dive Signal Fault S060 .............................................. Left Front Position Sensor Fault S061 ............................................. Right Front Position Sensor Fault S071 ............................................... Right Front Accelerometer Fault I am wondering if you guys could tell me A) if these problems are major, and B ) a rough estimate for how much it will cost to repair. Cadillac Jim
None of these look serious to me. I would start by looking at the position sensor on the right front, which will clear the S061 and possibly all the other S codes -- after you reset them, they won't come back. Your EGR needs cleaning out. This should clear the P023 and P036 codes. The P074 and P083 may be due to loose or unplugged connectors. I would start by checking the fuses and connectors on the crankshaft sensors and the fuel injection. I don't have experience with the 4.9 so someone that does will need to step in here and tell you where the crankshaft and MAT sensors are. Whoops, I see you have the 4.6 l Northstar; if so, you have an ETC. On the Nothstar, the crankshaft sensors are in the front and center of the engine, down below the exhaust manifolds. There are two of them; make sure that both connectors are OK, tight, and fully pushed on the sensors. The MAT sensor is a new one on me; I know that the IAT sensor is on the air cleaner housing, and the MAF is on the intake manifold. The 1993-1994 has a different intake than mine; again we need someone with one of those and/or a 1993/1994 FSM to talk about the MAT sensor. All of this is in DIY territory. If you don't like to take things apart, do the simple inspect-and-fix electrical work yourself and get a good general-purpose mechanic to clean out the EGR. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
