My poor ole car its on the blink yet again...lol Sometimes it wont start but what I can do to get it to start is give it some gas and as long as the gas is on some it runs pretty nice ! It did die today for the first time while driving but didnt want to start right back up. So I kinda wonder if its a cam crank postion senors ? There are no other codes than the one.

Please Help,

Michael S

You are not giving us much to work with here. DTC U1000 is not a very specific code.

What year/model vehicle?

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

I would not suspect camshaft or crankshaft position sensors without the corresponding "P" code; the engine will run on a set of PCM default paramters even without the sensor signals.

There should be an informative "P" code eventually.

I took it to a small ac delco shop here, and it was the map sensor. Now after driving the car for 600 miles it dies when at idol and theres no codes again :( . The car died at the gas station in Indiana and then I drove it back down I-65 and it ran fine for 112 miles to Louisville. Once home in the drive way it died on me again.. Any thoughts ?

Im back with this code p0506 again after I had the air temp sensor replaced. I was wondering where I may find a good price on an air idle control ?

Thanks,

Michael-

I got mine at www.rockauto.com. They have fast shipping, great customer service, and no hassle returns if you need it. I use them frequently. If you go with them, there's a discount code in my signature, click the link on the bottom of my post here.

A lot of members here also use www.GMPartsDirect.com and they have good prices as well.

WARNING: I'm a total car newbie, don't be surprised if I ask a stupid question! Just trying to learn.

Cheers!

CLEAN the IDLE AIR CONTROL and THE THROTTLE BODY before you spend money. CLEAN out the passages in the TB where the IAC sits.

Were you getting a code for the MAP? MAP stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor

The manifold absolute pressure sensor provides instantaneous manifold pressure information to the engine's electronic control unit (ECU). This is necessary to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn is used to calculate the appropriate fuel flow. (See stoichiometry.)

An engine control system that uses manifold absolute pressure to calculate air mass uses the speed-density method. Engine speed (RPM) and air temperature are also necessary to complete the speed-density calculation

how do you do this cleaning and where is the idle air and throttle bottle located? my car is dying at stop lights and when i slow down, and finally, its taking a couple of turns of the ignition sometimes to get it to start back up. i was thinking its the crankshaft sensors. sometimes i smell something burning also. it dies when i make a right turn when coming from a stop sometimes and at stop lights. i dont get a code for the crankshaft. im gonna pull my codes again though and see what i get.

I am not 100% sure what the 03 looks like but here is a photo of the throttle body

#4 is the IAC, its attached to the left side of the throttle body as you look down its throat

This is the throttle body, with the black collar detached from it

You must take the black collar off it has three screws attached to it, use GM upper engine cleaner with a detail or tooth brush and clean the walls of the throttle body where the plate contact it, the edges of the plate and the back of the plate. Remove the two screws from the IAC and clean its pindle and port good.

excellent. do you have pictures of the crankshaft position sensor location also, (just in case) ;)

I think there is a diagram here somewhere if you search, but the CKP sensors are above the oil filter adapter , which needs to be removed to gain access.
