heymantim
Does anyone know the GM Part Number for the timesert kit (bolts and plugs) for the larger of the two kits. I am told that there is a first time kit and a second time kit that is slightly bigger. Also on some discussion forums the had a "Norm's Kit". This was sold on E-Bay as I recall. Does anyone know of a phone number to purchase one? At the time this was very highly recommended, is it still that way? Thanks Tim
Bruce Nunnally
The Info on the kits from timesert.com appears to include the p/n's. J-42385-500BS is shown as a 2nd repair kit. Cadillac Jim
Timeserts and kits, including OEM parts are sold on the Timesert web site as well as at GM and other dealers. The Bigsert, or "second repair" kits use a bigger insert. I don't know whether the bolts themselves are bigger. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. MrEldo97
The head bolts are standard head bolts for the second repair. The insert is bigger.

The drawback to that insert is that it is not swaged into place like the Timesert - the Norm's kit relies totally on the Loctite to hold it in place. The Norm's kit is slightly cheaper than the Timesert but I pefer to use the product that was validated by GM considering the amount of work that is required to repair the engine.
